Institutional review board approval and informed consent were obtained for this HIPAA-compliant study. The purpose of this study was to prospectively evaluate sensitivity and specificity of various estimated perfusion parameters at three-dimensional (3D) perfusion magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the liver in the diagnosis of advanced liver fibrosis (stage >or= 3), with histologic analysis, liver function tests, or MR imaging as the reference standard. Whole-liver 3D perfusion MR imaging was performed in 27 patients (17 men, 10 women; mean age, 55 years) after dynamic injection of 8-10 mL of gadopentetate dimeglumine. The following estimated perfusion parameters were measured with a dual-input single-compartment model: absolute arterial blood flow (F(a)), absolute portal venous blood flow (F(p)), absolute total liver blood flow (F(t)) (F(t) = F(a) + F(p)), arterial fraction (ART), portal venous fraction (PV), distribution volume (DV), and mean transit time (MTT) of gadopentetate dimeglumine. Patients were assigned to two groups (those with fibrosis stage

Background And Aims: The performance of non-invasive liver tests (NITs) is known to vary across settings and subgroups. We systematically evaluated whether the performance of three NITs in detecting advanced fibrosis in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) varies with age, sex, body mass index (BMI), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) status or liver enzymes.
Methods: Data from 586 adult LITMUS Metacohort participants with histologically characterised MASLD were included.

The lack of in vivo accurate human liver models hinders the investigation of liver-related diseases, injuries, and drug-related toxicity, posing challenges for both basic research and clinical applications. Traditional cellular and animal models, while widely used, have significant limitations in replicating the liver's complex responses to various stressors. Liver organoids derived from human pluripotent stem cells, adult stem cells primary cells, or tissues can mimic diverse liver cell types, major physiological functions, and architectural features.

Ceftobiprole, an advanced-generation cephalosporin with broad bactericidal activity, is approved for community-acquired and hospital-acquired pneumonia (excluding ventilator-associated pneumonia). We aimed to evaluate, in a real-world setting, the safety profile of ceftobiprole in patients with risk conditions (severe renal impairment, hepatic impairment, and immunocompromised status), groups excluded from clinical trials. In this retrospective study (NCT04170309), 396 consecutive charts of patients treated with ceftobiprole during 2016-2022 in 15 centers in France, Italy, and Spain were analyzed: 62 had severe renal impairment, 51 had hepatic impairment, 120 were immunocompromised, and 203 had no predefined risk condition (controls).

Background: Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a major public health concern and cause of mortality and morbidity. Alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) is a debilitating complication of AUD, mitigated by abstinence from alcohol use. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is emerging as a potential treatment for AUD.

Copper is an essential micronutrient in the human body, mainly acting as a crucial cofactor required for a wide range of physiological processes across nearly all cell types. Recent advances revealed that tumor cells seize copper to fulfill their rapid proliferation, metastasis, immune evasion, and so on by reprogramming the copper regulatory network, defined as cuproplasia. Thus, targeting copper chelation to reduce copper levels has been considered a rational tumor therapy strategy.
