Fenoxaprop-p-ethyl, a herbicide that is commonly used in Cukurova region, was studied for possible adverse impacts on the Seyhan dam plankton and water quality variables in laboratory microcosms for 40 days. Water containing natural plankton, and sediment were collected from the Seyhan dam. The herbicide was added to six microcosms in 0.1, 1, and 10 mg L(-1) concentrations. Two microcosms were used as reference groups. The results indicate that pennat diatom, Cladocera, and Copepoda at 10 mg L(-1) contaminations and centric diatom and Chlorophyta at 1 mg L(-1) contamination were affected. This herbicide did not alter water quality.

The new summer index (SSI) which was established to determine climate comfort was classified according to the index. Climatic comfort areas will increase and thus raising the quality of living in areas. The temperature values felt in the study were calculated with the SSI formula, and then the maps of the study area were classified.

In this study, freshly deposited soils were sampled from the Seyhan River (Turkey) from the exit of the Seyhan Dam to the Adana exit. Heavy metal contents were measured with X-ray fluorescence spectrometer. Multivariate statistical approach is used to identify the sources of heavy metals and other elements in soil samples.

The aim of this study was to determine if high concentrations of any heavy metals exist in the sediment of Seyhan Dam reservoir to be considered toxic to the aquatic environment. Surface sediment samples from five stations in the Seyhan dam were collected quarterly from 2004 to 2005 and examined for metal content (Cr, Zn Cu, Mn, Cd, Fe, Ca, K, and Na), organic matter, and grain size. Correlation analyses showed that metal content of Seyhan dam sediment was affected by organic matter and grain size.

Specimen of freshwater fish (Cyprinidae) was collected from polluted and clean areas in dam Lake of Seyhan. Ten (n=10) fish were taken from each site. Liver preparations of fish from the two sources were comparatively assayed for glutathione-S-transferase (GST), lactic dehydrogenase (LDH), catalase (CAT), glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA).
