A novel organic-inorganic hybrid ruthenium (HB Ru) catalyst for the oxidation of alcohols with molecular oxygen has been developed. The catalyst was prepared from a polystyrene-based copolymer, which includes a trimethoxysilyl functionality, and dichlorotris(triphenylphosphine)ruthenium, [RuCl2(PPh3)3], as the metal source. A sol-gel process was employed for heterogenization of the catalyst. The choice of both ruthenium species and trialkoxysilyl-bearing monomers was found to be important for high catalytic activity. In the presence of HB Ru corresponding to 5 mol % loading of ruthenium, the alcohols were oxidized with molecular oxygen or air at atmospheric pressure without any additives to afford the corresponding aldehydes or ketones in good to excellent yields. The catalyst could be recovered and reused at least five times without loss of activity.

Nitrogen deficiency is a key constraint on crop yield. Cassava, the world's sixth-largest food crop and a crucial source of feed and industrial materials, can thrive in marginal soils, yet its yield is still significantly affected by limited nitrogen availability. Investigating cassava's response mechanisms to nitrogen scarcity is therefore essential for advancing molecular breeding and identifying nitrogen-efficient varieties.

Most biomedical research on animals is based on the handful of the so-called standard model organisms, i.e. laboratory mice, rats or , but the keys to some important biomedical questions may simply not be found in these.

Since water is both a product and a common reactant impurity in the (partial) methanol oxidation to methyl formate (MeFo) on gold, its effect on the isothermal selectivity to methyl formate was investigated under well-defined single-collision conditions employing pulsed molecular beam experiments and in situ IRAS measurements. Both a flat Au(111) and a stepped Au(332) surface were used as model catalysts to elucidate how water affects the reactivity of low-coordinated step sites as compared to (111) terrace sites employing a range of reaction conditions. The interactions of water with methanol/methoxy as well as with oxygen species are addressed.

Conversion of glycerol to added-value products is desirable due to its surplus during biodiesel synthesis. TiO has been the most explored catalyst. We performed a systematic study of glycerol adsorption on anatase (101), anatase (001), and rutile (110) TiO at the Density Functional Theory level.

In our research, we constructed models of renal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R)-exposed acute kidney injury (AKI) and unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO)-stimulated renal fibrosis (RF) in C57BL/6 mice and HK-2 cells. We firstly authenticated that oral pinocembrin (PIN) administration obviously mitigated tissue damage and renal dysfunction induced by I/R injury, and PIN attenuated UUO-caused RF, as confirmed by the reduced expression of fibrotic markers as well as hematoxylin-eosin (H&E), Sirius red, immunohistochemistry, and Masson staining. Meanwhile, the beneficial role of PIN was again demonstrated in HK-2 cells with hypoxia-reoxygenation (H/R) or transforming growth factor beta-1 (TGF-β1) treatment.
