Purpose: We studied the prevalence of neutralization antibodies against human adenovirus (hADV) in ophthalmological medical workers as one measure for the prevention of nosocomial infection.
Methods: The prevalence of neutralization antibodies against hADV-3, -4, -7, -8, -11, -19, and -37, which can cause conjunctivitis, was measured in 288 workers at ten ophthamological facilities in Japan. We studied the prevalence in different facilities, different generations, different types of workers (doctors, nurses, and others), and their medical history of hADV conjunctivitis.
Results: Among the workers, the prevalence of neutralization antibodies against hADV-3, -4, -7, -8, -11, -19, and -37 was 70.1%, 43.8%, 18.8%, 16.3%, 16.3%, 8.7%, and 6.3%, respectively. The prevalence of neutralization antibodies against hADV-8 was two times higher in doctors than in other workers. People who have a history of hADV conjunctivitis have a high prevalence of neutralization antibodies against hADV-8, -19, and-37.
Conclusions: The prevalence of neutralization antibodies against hADV-8, -19, and-37 was low in the ophthalmological medical workers. These seroepidemiological data indicate the high possibility of an epidemic of conjunctivitis and occurrence of nosocomial infection caused by these serotypes.

The development of COVID-19 vaccines has been an important step in the fight against the pandemic. However, it is still necessary to understand the influence of factors that can alter the immune response. In general, doses need to be updated frequently, and care must be taken to control the virus that is still circulating worldwide.

An incursion and outbreak of Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) was reported in Australia in 2021 and 2022, respectively. There was speculation that JEV may have been circulating in Australia unknowingly prior to the detection. In this study, we determined sero-prevalence and transmission of West Nile virus (WNV), Murray Valley encephalitis virus (MVEV) and JEV, prior to and post JEV incursion in a sentinel equine population in south-east Queensland (SEQ), Australia, using blocking ELISAs (screening test) and virus neutralisation test (confirmatory).

T cells have been identified as correlates of protection in viral infections. However, the level of vaccine-induced T cells needed and the extent to which they alone can control acute viral infection in humans remain uncertain. Here we conducted a double-blind, randomized controlled trial involving vaccination and challenge in 33 adult human volunteers, using the live-attenuated yellow fever (YF17D) and chimeric Japanese encephalitis-YF17D (JE/YF17D) vaccines.

Historically considered to be nonenveloped, hepatitis E virus (HEV), an important zoonotic pathogen, has recently been discovered to egress from infected cells as quasi-enveloped virions. These quasi-enveloped virions circulating in the blood are resistant to neutralizing antibodies, thereby facilitating the stealthy spread of infection. Despite abundant evidence of the essential role of the HEV-encoded ORF3 protein in quasi-enveloped virus formation, the underlying mechanism remains unclear.

The membrane-proximal external region (MPER) of the HIV-1 envelope is a target for broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs), and vaccine-elicited MPER-directed antibodies have recently been reported from a human clinical trial. In this study, we sought to identify MPER-directed nAbs in simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV)-infected rhesus macaques. We isolated four lineages of SIV MPER-directed nAbs from two SIV-infected macaques.
