Diabetics would benefit greatly from a device capable of providing continuous noninvasive monitoring of their blood glucose levels. The optical scattering coefficient of tissue depends on the concentration of glucose in the extracellular fluid. A feasibility study was performed to evaluate the sensitivity of the tissue reduced scattering coefficient in response to step changes in the blood glucose levels of diabetic volunteers. Estimates of the scattering coefficient were based on measurements of the diffuse reflectance on the skin at distances of 1-10 mm from a point source. A correlation was observed between step changes in blood glucose concentration and tissue reduced scattering coefficient in 30 out of 41 subjects measured.

This paper presents a multiscale computational model, 'micro-to-meso-to-macro', to simulate polydopamine coated gold nanoparticles (AuNP@PDA) for assisted tumor photothermal therapy (PTT). The optical properties, mainly refractive index, of the PDA unit molecules are calculated using the density functional theory (DFT) method in this multiscale model. Subsequently, the thermodynamic properties, including thermal conductivity and heat capacity, of the PDA cells and AuNP@PDA particles are calculated using molecular dynamics (MD) simulation.

We report the pressure-temperature (-) phase diagram, the origin of the subglass dynamics, and the crystallization kinetics of the biobased polyester poly(ethylene 2,5-furanoate) (PEF), through dielectric spectroscopy (DS) measurements performed as a function of temperature and pressure. The phase diagram comprises four different "phases"; glass, quenched melt, crystalline, and normal melt. The cold crystallization temperature, , increases linearly with pressure (according to the Clausius-Clapeyron equation) as / ∼ 240 K·GPa and is accompanied by a small change in specific volume (Δ = 0.

The accurate characterization of microtubules is essential for understanding their roles in various biological activities in eukaryotic cellular processes. In vitro, experimental data on these systems often need more details and information on sample preparation protocols and experimental techniques. This deficiency leads to unreproducible or contradictory outcomes.
