Introduction: The proportion of the elderly is constantly increasing and by the year 2025 20% of the population will be above 65 years of age. With advanced age, subjects will develop multiple diseases and often need to take several drugs.
Discussion: This polypharmacy increases the risk for drug interactions and adverse effects. In addition, age-related physiological changes affect different biological systems and can contribute to alterations in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in older patients, which are more often seen in the frail than in the fit elderly. These features will complicate drug therapy in the elderly, and a careful dose titration is advisable. Furthermore, inappropriate drug prescription and non-adherence to medication represent common therapeutic challenges in elderly subjects. To date, there is no evidence of any effective antiageing agent.
Conclusion: This review summarizes present knowledge of age-related problems in drug action and their clinical implications for an increasingly important population.

Purpose: This study quantified the impact of clinical clerkships on medical students' disciplinary knowledge using the Comprehensive Clinical Science Examination (CCSE) as a formative assessment tool.
Methods: This study involved 155 third-year medical students in the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University who matriculated in 2016. Disciplinary scores on their individual Comprehensive Clinical Science Examination reports were extracted by digitizing the bar charts using image processing techniques.

Objectives: To investigate whether baseline depressive symptoms impacted the effectiveness of an exercise intervention among (pre)frail older adults.
Methods: This is a subanalysis of a stepped-wedge cluster randomized trial implementing an exercise intervention, with an application of the integration of the Health Belief Model, Theory of Planned Behavior, and Health Action Process Approach, among 149 community-dwelling (pre)frail older adults. The intervention effectiveness was examined by baseline depressive symptoms (depressive symptoms ( = 40) and non-depressive symptoms ( = 109).

Context: The use of prebiotics and probiotics as a treatment for psychiatric conditions has gained interest due to their potential to modulate the gut-brain axis. This review aims to assess the effectiveness of these interventions in reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety in psychiatric populations.
Objective: The aim was to comprehensively review and appraise the effectiveness of prebiotic, probiotic, and synbiotic interventions in reducing clinical depression and anxiety symptoms.

Multiple myeloma (MM), a clonal B-cell neoplasia, is an incurable and heterogeneous disease where survival ranges from a few months to more than 10 years. The clinical heterogeneity of MM arises from multiple genomic events that result in tumour development and progression. Recurring genomic abnormalities including cytogenetic abnormalities, gene mutations and abnormal gene expression profiles in myeloma cells have a strong prognostic power.
