Sibutramine is one of the very few drugs that are approved for long-term treatment of obesity. Sibutramine is a racemic mixture (RS) containing two equal forms of the R(+) and S(-) enantiomers. In this paper, we have investigated comparative anorexic effect of sibutramine enantiomers and their recemate form in rats. After obtaining two days of baseline results, rats were administered orally either with (RS)-sibutramine or its enantiomers (R)- or (S)-sibutramine at dose levels of 5, 10, 20 mg/kg each for 4 days and body weight, food intake and water intake were measured daily. Locomotor activity score of each rat was also recorded on each day. R-Sibutramine and (RS)-sibutramine produced dose dependant decrease in the body weight and food intake. On the other hand, (S)-sibutramine was shown to increase in these parameters. Neither sibutramine nor it's enantiomers showed any consistent effects on spontaneous motor activity (SMA) scores. In conclusion, (R)-sibutramine is better anorexic than or (RS)-sibutramine or it's (S)-enantiomers.

Metabolic syndrome during menopause can lead to diabetes, cardiovascular problems, and increased mortality rates. Hormone replacement therapy is recommended to manage climacteric complications, but it has serious adverse effects. This study, therefore, investigated the potential of supplementing some minerals, vitamins, and natural products like boric acid, magnesium, vitamin D3, and extra virgin olive oil on metabolic status of menopausal ovariectomized rats.

This two-phase study aims to develop the Turkish version of the German Eating Behavior Scale (SEV-Tr), and to investigate the potential associations of eating behaviors with nutritional and health status. In the first phase, the original scale was adapted to the Turkish language and its validity and reliability were assessed in 299 healthy individuals aged 19-64 years. In the second phase, the SEV-Tr was retested in a study population of 110 healthy individuals, aged 19-64 years, and the potential associations between the SEV-Tr score, anthropometrical and biochemical measurements, and other eating behaviors assessed by the Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire (TFEQ-Tr21) were examined.

Background and Objective: Turmeric, strawberries and broccoli are popular in the community for their beneficial effects in improving lipid profile, but poor bioavailability and absorption of their phytochemical compounds might reduce their effects while given separately. Therefore, their combination might provide a synergistic enhancement of their property as hypolipidemic agents. This study aims to examine the effects of turmeric, strawberry and broccoli in improving lipid profile in adult patients with hypercholesterolemia.

[Investigation of general toxic effects of Relatox in comparison with Dysport].

Zh Nevrol Psikhiatr Im S S Korsakova

December 2024

OOO NBC «Pharmbiomed», Moscow, Russia.

Objective: To evaluate the toxic effects of the agent Relatox on mature outbred rats and mice in an acute experiment in comparison with the registered analogue Dysport.

Material And Methods: Based on the aim of experiment, the acute toxic effects of Relatox and Dysport were assessed on two animal species: rats and mice at intraperitoneal and intramuscular administration at dose levels that made it possible to calculate the toxicological parameter values (initially 10-150 U/kg with subsequent usage of additional doses 20 U/kg to 300 U/kg depending on the agent and route of administration). The LD values and other acute toxic parameters were calculated using probit analysis.
