A new male contraceptive given the name RISUG (an acronym for reversible inhibition of sperm under guidance) and presently undergoing advanced clinical trials has been developed. When injected into the lumen of the vas deferens, its polyelectrolytic nature induces a surface charge imbalance on sperm membrane system leading to the leakage of enzymes essential for fertilization. Contact mode atomic force microscopy (AFM) has been used to analyze quantitatively the micro-structural properties of RISUG and its precipitate in various systems. Hydrolysis of the contraceptive gel resulted in the formation of pores of varying dimensions. RISUG being a highly charged molecule, as evident from zeta potential measurements, has a tendency to form a complex with ionic biomolecules present in the seminal plasma. This is supported by the experimental observations using AFM. This RISUG-biomolecule complex possibly acts as an ionic trap for spermatozoa passing through the vas deferens. Micro-structural properties of RISUG including amplitude (root mean square, peak-to-valley distance, skewness and kurtosis) and spatial roughness have been studied to understand its response to various physiological conditions. Significant alterations in the surface charge distribution of the sperm cell is observed on exposure to RISUG.

The rat offers a uniquely valuable animal model in neuroscience, but we currently lack an individual-level understanding of the in vivo rat brain network. Here, leveraging longitudinal measures of cortical magnetization transfer ratio (MTR) from in vivo neuroimaging between postnatal days 20 (weanling) and 290 (mid-adulthood), we design and implement a computational pipeline that captures the network of structural similarity (MIND, morphometric inverse divergence) between each of 53 distinct cortical areas. We first characterized the normative development of the network in a cohort of rats undergoing typical development (N=47), and then contrasted these findings with a cohort exposed to early life stress (ELS, N=40).

Herein, we investigate the yield, micro-structures, rheological properties and bioactivities of new Ganoderma leucocontextum polysaccharide (GLP) obtained from Kangding via ultrasound combined mechanical wall-breaking extraction (UBE), and examine the effect of GLP as a structural and functional improver on the physicochemical, sensory, aromatic, water-holding capacity (WHC), textural, rheological, micro-structural and protein structural properties, and bioactivities of set fat-free goat yogurt (set-FGY). Through response surface optimisation, the extracted GLP achieved a maximum yield of 2.18 %, showing good apparent viscosity and elastic behaviour in 3 % aqueous solution as well as good micro-structure and significant anti-oxidant and anti-diabetic activities.

This study aims to obtain sunnhemp protein isolate (SHPI) and dextran conjugates by dry heating method of Maillard conjugation. The effects of different incubation time (0, 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 days) on the molecular flexibility, available lysine content, antioxidant properties, molecular structure, and thermal and micro-structural properties of conjugates were compared with SHPI (no conjugation) at 60°C and 79% relative humidity. The results indicated the formation of SHPI-dextran conjugates as confirmed by the change in molecular flexibility, lysine content, antioxidant activities, color, and water activity values.

Metallographic image analysis is vital in the field of metal science due to its potential to automate the sensing process for grain and particle size estimation. To ensure the good quality and reliability of metal products, analysis of the integrity of metallic components is required. In contemporary manufacturing processes, microscopic analysis is a crucial step, mainly when complex systems like gearboxes, turbines, or engines are assembled using various components from multiple suppliers.
