Background: Periodic acceleration in the direction of the spinal axis through repetitive movement increases the shear stress on the vascular endothelium. In the present study it was assessed whether whole-body periodic acceleration with a new device would enhance endothelial function in sedentary adult volunteers.
Methods And Results: Twenty-six sedentary subjects (44+/-3 years) were randomly assigned to remain sedentary or perform exercise training for 4 weeks, followed by crossover. Periodic acceleration was applied with a horizontal motion platform at 2-3 Hz and approximately +/-2.2 m/s2 for 45 min. Increases in the brachial artery diameter were examined at rest, during reactive hyperemia (flow-mediated dilatation: %FMD) and after sublingual administration of 0.3 mg nitroglycerin (%NTG) using high-resolution ultrasound. All subjects completed the study with no adverse side-effects. There were no significant changes in the resting heart rate or arterial pressure, body weight, or lipid profiles during the study. Although %FMD did not change during the non-training period with periodic acceleration, it significantly increased from 7.3+/-0.4% at baseline to 8.4+/-0.4% after the training period (p<0.05), while %NTG remained unchanged.
Conclusions: Whole-body periodic acceleration with a horizontal motion platform improved vascular endothelial function in sedentary adults. This device might offer an alternative to active exercise for patients whose medical condition limits physical activity.

As climate change accelerates, understanding the mechanisms of ecosystem phenology in vulnerable regions is crucial for terrestrial environments. This research systematically used remote sensing data to study the dynamic changes in vegetation phenology in the upper and middle Yellow River Basin (UMYRB), examined the effects of environmental shifts on vegetation phenology, and quantified the contributions of different driving factors. The key findings are as follows: (1) As elevation and latitude increase, the start of the growing season (SOGS) is generally delayed, particularly in the northwest and northeast, where it typically occurs between days 140 and 180.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to assess changes in empathy throughout a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program using a self-assessment tool and assessment by standardized patients (SPs).
Methods: This study was conducted over the course of a three-year, accelerated PharmD curriculum. Students participated in a series of educational interventions focused on empathy development within the didactic curriculum.

In order to study the impact of periodic loads on the vibration performance of the flexible positioning platform in the key mechanisms of the ultra-high acceleration macro-micro motion platform, and to improve the performance and stability of the platform, this paper combined SolidWorks and ANSYS Workbench to conduct modal analysis and harmonic response of the flexible positioning platform. Analysis to obtain its inherent characteristics. The piezoelectric actuator provides the driving force of the micro-motion platform and achieves precise micro-motion displacement positioning, which is used to study the frequency response results of simple harmonic excitation.

Background: This latest systematic review and meta-analysis aim to examine the efficacy of acellular dermal matrix (ADM) in pediatric burns.
Methods: Relevant articles were retrieved from Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane, Web of science, China National Knowledge Infrastructureris, VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals and Wanfang database. The primary outcome was the healing time, and secondary outcomes were the skin graft survival rate, reoperation, complications, numbers of dressing change, incidence of scarring, scar areas and scar scores.

Aim: To evaluate the impact of a multilevel intervention in a surgical department on the segregation of non-hazardous healthcare waste (plastic and paper) during the perioperative period as well as its effect on the carbon footprint of the healthcare organisation.
Methods: A prospective before-after interventional study without a control group was carried out in the operating room of the Universitary Hospital Mútua Terrassa in Catalonia (Spain). A multilevel programme to improve the segregation process during the surgical interventions was implemented in several phases from May 2023 to December 2024.
