A series of regiospecific chlorinated fluoresceins have been synthesized by the reaction of the regiospecific chlorinated resorcinols with chlorinated phthalic anhydride. The regioisomers were successfully separated by chromatography. The photophysical properties of the obtained chlorinated fluoresceins were examined and found their absorption and emission maxima at long wavelength with high fluorescence quantum yield. Especially, pH-dependent properties of chlorinated fluoresceins have been studied in detail. These compounds show strongly pH-sensitive range of 3.5-7.0, and have lower pK (a) values than fluorescein. Furthermore, their fluorescent intensity could reach the maximum in the physiological environment of pH range 6.8-7.4. Due to higher fluorescence quantum yield and lower pK (a) values, chlorinated fluoresceins will be expected to be used as excellent pH fluorescent probes for pH measurement of the acidic cell.

Anionic boron clusters, such as [BX] (X = Cl, Br, I), have attracted attention in pharmaceuticals due to their unique superchaotropic properties. In particular, [BBr] () has demonstrated strong interactions with biomolecules, facilitating cargo translocation across plasma membranes. In this study, we investigated the effect of covalently attaching chlorinated dodecaborate moiety [BClO-] to 6-carboxyfluorescein (6-FAM) () via a PEG3 linker to form conjugate ().

The viable but non-culturable (VBNC) state is a survival strategy for many foodborne pathogens under adverse conditions. () as a kind of primary foodborne pathogen, and it is crucial to investigate its survival strategies and potential risks in the food chain. In this study, the effectiveness of ultraviolet (UV) irradiation and chlorine treatment in disinfecting the foodborne pathogen was investigated.

Amorphous silica particles (ASPs) have been reported to exhibit bioactive properties and are becoming the focus of attention as bioceramics. However, their interactions with proteins in living organisms remain to be understood and need to be investigated in order to achieve wider applications. Our research group found that chlorine (Cl)-containing ASPs are useful for protein immobilization.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of photodynamic therapy (PDT) with chlorin E6 in chronic central serous chorioretinopathy.

Methods: In this single-center retrospective cohort study, all patients received standard PDT with 6 mg of chlorin E6 (Fotoran E6) for each m 2 of body surface area with 50 J/cm 2 fluence and a treatment time of 83 seconds. The changes in central retinal thickness, subfoveal choroidal thickness, and best-corrected visual acuity were evaluated at the end of the follow-up.

Chlorine (Cl) exposure poses a significant risk to ocular health, with the cornea being particularly susceptible to its corrosive effects. Antioxidants, known for their ability to neutralize reactive oxygen species (ROS) and alleviate oxidative stress, were explored as potential therapeutic agents to counteract chlorine-induced damage. In vitro experiments using human corneal epithelial cells showed decreased cell viability by chlorine-induced ROS production, which was reversed by antioxidant incubation.
