Background: Impairment of the visceral pleura following thoracic surgery often leads to air leaks and intrathoracic adhesions. For preventing such complications, mesothelial cell proliferation at the pleural defects can be effective. To develop new materials for pleural defects restoration, we constructed a hybrid artificial pleural tissue (H-APLT) combining polyglycolic acid (PGA) nanofiber sheets with a three-dimensional culture of mesothelial cells and fibroblasts and evaluated its therapeutic efficacy in a rat pleural defect model.

Objectives: Pressurized IntraThoracic Aerosol Chemotherapy (PITAC) has been suggested as a new therapy for patients with malignant pleural effusion (MPE) and/or pleural metastasis (PLM). The patients have a poor prognosis with a median survival of 3 to 12 months. We present feasibility, patient safety, and cytological/histological response assessment in PITAC-treated patients with MPE and/or PLM.

BACKGROUND Congenital pericardial agenesis is a rare condition that is frequently associated with abnormal intrathoracic anatomy, especially malpositioning of the heart within the thoracic cavity. In the setting of coronary artery bypass, these anatomic derangements can present surgical challenges that can necessitate incorporating complementary, non-surgical solutions for complete revascularization. CASE REPORT A 48-year-old male patient presented with acute anginal symptoms, with workup revealing severe, multivessel coronary artery disease, as well as partial absence of the pericardium.

Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, Les Augrès Manor, La Profonde Rue, Jersey, JE3 5BP, Channel Islands.

The aye-aye () is an unusual lemur with a small population in human care. Cardiac pathologies, but not normal size parameters, have been reported in this species. This study aimed to determine whether radiographic cardiac scaling systems commonly used to evaluate heart size in domestic mammals have potential clinical application in aye-ayes.
