The construction of artificial reefs (ARs) is an effective way to restore habitats and increase and breed fishery resources in marine ranches. However, studies on the impacts of ARs on the structure, function, and assembly patterns of the bacterial community (BC), which is important in biogeochemical cycles, are lacking. The compositions, diversities, assembly patterns, predicted functions, and key environmental factors of the attached and free-living microbial communities in five-year ARs (O-ARs) and one-year ARs (N-ARs) in Fangchenggang, China, were analyzed via 16S rRNA gene sequencing.

The physiological, functional, and structural properties of proteins and their pathogenic variants can be summarized using many tools. The information relating to a single protein is often spread among different sources requiring different programs for access. It is not always easy to select, simultaneously visualize, and compare specific properties of different proteins.

Background: Citrullinemia type I disorders (CTLN1) is a genetic metabolic disease caused by argininosuccinate synthetase (ASS1) gene mutation. To date, the human genome mutation database has documented over 100 variants of the ASS1 gene. This study reported a novel deletion-insertion variant of ASS1 gene and employed various prediction tools to determine its pathogenicity.

Lipid-protein interactions are crucial for virtually all biological processes in living cells. However, existing structural databases focusing on these interactions are limited to integral membrane proteins. A systematic understanding of diverse lipid-protein interactions also encompassing lipid-anchored, peripheral membrane and soluble lipid binding proteins remains to be elucidated.

We explored the association between aerobic capacity (AC) and the skeletal muscle proteome of McArdle (n = 10) and wild-type (n = 8) mice, as models of intrinsically 'low' and 'normal' AC, respectively. AC was determined as total distance achieved in treadmill running until exhaustion. The quadriceps muscle proteome was studied using liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry, with the Search Tool for the Retrieval of Interacting Genes/Proteins database used to generate protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks and enrichment analyses.
