Tetrodotoxin (TTX) is a neurotoxin that binds to sodium channels and blocks sodium conduction. Importantly, TTX has been increasingly detected in edible aquatic organisms. Because of this and the lack of specific antidotes, TTX poisoning is now a major threat to public health.

We present a rare and challenging case of Weil's disease in a patient who was admitted to the Critical Care Unit with a clinical suspicion of the condition. The patient showed a prompt response to treatment before laboratory confirmation was obtained. Leptospirosis, a zoonotic disease, is most commonly found in tropical and temperate regions.

Data for Mexico were sourced from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), while the US data were extracted from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Wide-ranging Online Data for Epidemiologic Research (CDC-WONDER) databases.
