Microvasculature failure is expected in sepsis and at higher amine concentrations. Therefore, special attention focused individually on microcirculation is needed. Here, we present that methylene blue can prevent leukocytes from adhering to the endothelium in a rat model of lipopolysaccharide-induced endotoxemia.

The combination of intravital dye, methylene blue (MB), with molecular cancer marker, pH low insertion peptide (pHLIP) conjugated with fluorescent Alexa532 (Alexa532-pHLIP), was evaluated for enhancing contrast of pathological breast tissue ex vivo. Fresh, thick breast specimens were stained sequentially with Alexa532-pHLIP and aqueous MB and imaged using dual-channel fluorescence microscopy. MB and Alexa532-pHLIP accumulated in the nuclei and cytoplasm of cancer cells, respectively.

Cardiac reflexes originating from sensory receptors in the heart ensure blood supply to vital tissues and organs in the face of constantly changing demands. Atrial volume receptors are mechanically sensitive vagal afferents which relay to the medulla and hypothalamus, affecting vasopressin release and renal sympathetic activity. To date, two anatomically distinct sensory endings have been identified which may subserve cardiac mechanosensation: end-nets and flower-spray endings.

As the lymph node status remains the main prognostic factor of gastric cancer (GC), several lymph node-based staging systems have been recently proposed for an appropriate postoperative therapy. The identification of sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) might improve the postoperative protocols. The aim of this study was to present our experience in detecting SLNs in GC using methylene blue dye.

Background: In the context of malaria elimination/eradication, drugs that are effective against the different developmental stages of the parasite are highly desirable. The oldest synthetic anti-malarial drug, the thiazine dye methylene blue (MB), is known for its activity against Plasmodium blood stages, including gametocytes. The aim of the present study was to investigate a possible effect of MB against malaria parasite liver stages.
