Background: The number of infants born via cesarean section (CS) is increasing globally due to medical and cultural reasons.

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the effect of the mode of delivery on early lung aeration in newborns using electrical impedance tomography (EIT).

Material And Methods: The case-control study was conducted from December 2020 to April 2021.

Implications of an Individualized Resuscitation Strategy Using Continuous Rhythm and Physiologic Status Assessment During Ongoing CPR.

Resuscitation

January 2025

Department of Medicine, University of Washington, Seattle, WA; King County Emergency Medical Services, Seattle-King County Department of Public Health, Seattle, WA.

Background: Prior studies have proposed defibrillator biosignal algorithms which characterize cardiac arrest rhythm and physiologic status. We evaluated whether a novel, individualized resuscitation strategy that integrates multiple ECG and impedance-based algorithms could reduce CPR interruptions and better align rescuer actions with patient-specific physiology.

Methods: In a retrospective cohort of ventricular fibrillation out-of-hospital cardiac arrests, observed rescuer actions (rhythm analysis, shock delivery, pulse checks, and drug therapy) were compared to hypothetical actions recommended by the proposed individualized strategy.

Effects of routine postural repositioning on the distribution of lung ventilation and perfusion in mechanically ventilated patients.

Intensive Crit Care Nurs

January 2025

Department of Intensive Care Medicine, Hospital Universitario de La Princesa, Madrid, Spain; Centro de investigación en red CIBERES de enfermedades respiratorias, Instituto de Salud, Carlos III, Madrid, Spain. Electronic address:

Objectives: To analyse the effects on respiratory function, lung volume and the regional distribution of ventilation and perfusion of routine postural repositioning in mechanically ventilated critically ill patients.

Methods: Prospective descriptive physiological study. We evaluated gas-exchange, lung mechanics, and Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) determined end-expiratory lung impedance and regional ventilation and perfusion distribution in five body positions: supine-baseline (S1); first lateralisation at 30° (L1); second supine position (S2), second contralateral lateralisation (L2) and third final supine position (S3).

Background: The phase angle (PhA) in bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) reflects the cell membrane integrity or body fluid equilibrium. We examined how the PhA aligns with previously known markers of acute heart failure (HF) and assessed its value as a screening tool.

Methods: PhA was measured in 50 patients with HF and 20 non-HF controls along with the edema index (EI), another BIA parameter suggestive of edema.

Introduction/aims: Spirometry is the conventional means to measure lung function in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), but is dependent on patient effort and bulbar strength. We aimed to use electric impedance tomography (EIT), an emerging non-invasive imaging modality, to measure dynamic lung volume changes.

Methods: Twenty-one patients with ALS underwent sitting and supine spirometry for forced vital capacity (FVC), and sitting and supine EIT.
