Reduction of VCl(2)(Nacnac) (Nacnac = HC(C(Me)NC(6)H(3)-iPr(2))(2)) with KC(8) in toluene leads to the formation of a toluene-bridged inverted-sandwich divanadium(I) complex, (mu-eta(6):eta(6)-C(7)H(8))[V(Nacnac)](2), which behaves as a source of V(Nacnac) and a multi-electron reductant in the two reactions studied in this report.

S-Adenosylmethionine (SAM) is the primary methyl donor for numerous cellular methylation reactions. Its central role in methylation and involvement with many pathways link its availability to the regulation of cellular processes, the dysregulation of which can contribute to disease states, such as cancer or neurodegeneration. Emerging evidence indicates that intracellular SAM levels are maintained within an optimal range by a variety of homeostatic mechanisms.

Glucansucrase Dsr_Wcp3a from a Weissella confusa strain discovered in fermented maize (pozol) was produced in E. coli BL21 resulting in three truncated forms of the native enzyme. An important modification of specificity is observed, as the truncated enzymes synthesize low molecular weight dextran from sucrose, probably due to the absence of domains IV and V, compared to the native enzyme which produces high molecular weight dextran.

In this work, UiO-66-l-cys with enhanced adsorption capacity for Hg(Ⅱ) in water was synthesized through a facile two-step partial ligand replacement strategy. The presence of the functional groups significantly enhanced the capacity of the material for Hg(Ⅱ). According to the Langmuir model, the maximum theoretical adsorption capacity was calculated to be 1321.

Direct Methane to Methanol Conversion: An Overview of Non-Syn Gas Catalytic Strategies.

Direct methane to methanol conversion is a dream reaction in industrial chemistry, which takes inspiration from the biological methanol production catalysed by methane monooxygenase enzymes (MMOs). Over the years, extensive studies have been conducted on this topic by bioengineering the MMOs, and tailoring methods to isolate the MMOs in the active form. Similarly, remarkable achievements have been noted in other methane activation strategies such as the use of heterogeneous catalysts or molecular catalysts.

Precise Synthesis of Complex Si-Si Molecular Frameworks.

Department of Chemistry, Johns Hopkins University, 3400 N. Charles St., Baltimore, Maryland 21218, United States.

In this Perspective, we highlight the emergence of target-oriented syntheses of complex molecules composed of Si-Si (oligosilanes) rather than C-C bonds. Saturated oligosilanes structurally resemble alkanes with respect to a tetrahedral geometry, a preference for a staggered conformation in linear chains, the ability to form stable small rings, and tetrahedral stereochemistry at asymmetrically functionalized Si centers. There are also critical differences, for example, differences in multiple bonding and the ability to form penta- and hexacoordinated structures, that mean that chemical reactivity and, in particular, rules for stereoselective synthesis do not cleanly translate from carbon to silicon.
