This study was done to identify the clinical characteristics of uremic restless legs syndrome (RLS). Consecutive uremic RLS patients (n = 15) and idiopathic RLS patients (iRLS; n = 20) were evaluated. The groups were compared with respect to their clinical course, subjective symptoms [using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the International Restless Legs Syndrome Severity Scale (IRLS)], polysomnographic (PSG) variables, the results of the suggested immobilization test (SIT), and the drug doses used to treat RLS. The duration of the disorder was significantly shorter in the uremic RLS group than in the iRLS group. The PSQI and IRLS scores before treatment were higher in the uremic RLS group than in the iRLS group. The periodic leg movement index (PLM index) on PSG and the SIT index were also higher in the uremic RLS group (P < 0.001, respectively). The bromocriptine equivalent dose of dopaminergic agonists used to treat RLS was significantly higher in the uremic RLS group (P < 0.001). Uremic RLS appears to deteriorate faster and to become more severe than iRLS. Moreover, uremic RLS patients appear to have a decreased response to dopaminergic agonists.

Background And Purpose: The coexistence of peripheral neuropathy (PN) and restless legs syndrome (RLS) or Willis-Ekbom disease is relatively frequent, but its prevalence has shown a high variability across studies. In addition, several reports have shown data suggesting the presence of PN in patients with idiopathic RLS.
Methods: A search was undertaken using the PubMed, Embase and Web of Science Databases, from 1966 to 6 December 2020, crossing the search term 'restless legs syndrome' with 'neuropathy', 'polyneuropathy' (PNP) and 'peripheral neuropathy', and the references of interest for this topic were identified; a meta-analysis was performed, according to PRISMA guidelines, and a calculation of pooled prevalences, where appropriate, was made using standard methods.

Objectives: The objective of this study is to describe the mechanism of damage to subcortical structures in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and to describe the range of movement disorders associated with CKD.
Materials And Methods: We have reviewed the Medline literature up to January of 2020 using key words movement disorders and chronic kidney disease. The reviewed articles were studied for mechanisms of subcortical damage in CKD as well as type of the reported movements, their frequency and updated treatment.

Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), or Willis-Ekbom disease (WED), is an irresistible urge to move the legs, predominantly while resting, sitting, or sleeping, which disrupts sleep and impairs quality of life. RLS can occur secondary to uremia in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients due to inadequate hemodialysis. Early diagnosis is essential to prevent muscular atrophy and to improve the quality of life of RLS patients, especially those with end-stage renal disease (ESRD).

Background: Restless legs syndrome (RLS) and uremic pruritus reduce the quality of life in patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) and current treatments are often insufficient. There is an increasing interest in using cannabinoids for symptom management, and preliminary evidence suggests cannabinoids may help alleviate RLS and pruritus.
Objectives: (1) To assess the frequency and severity of RLS and pruritus in our ESKD population with the current treatment options, (2) to estimate patient use of cannabinoids for these symptoms, and (3) to determine interest in participating in future trials to treat RLS and/or pruritus.
