A photon echo experiment in Tm(3+):YAG is reported that shows, for the first time to the authors' knowledge, the time-domain equivalent of the transition from near- to far-field diffraction, including Talbot self-imaging effects. The experiment demonstrates the huge dispersion capability of photon echoes and opens the way to further exploration of space-time duality.

Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) waveform is highly preferred as a dual-function candidate for integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems. However, the sensitivity to both carrier frequency offset (CFO) and phase noise greatly impedes its applications in millimeter-wave ISAC systems. Here, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a photonic millimeter-wave ISAC system employing the virtual-carrier-aided self-coherent OFDM technique, wherein a digitally-generated local oscillator is transmitted along with the OFDM signal.

One of the most essential prerequisites for the development of pulse Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) is the ability to generate high-power coherent mm-wave pulses at the electron precession frequencies corresponding to the magnetic fields of modern high-resolution NMR spectrometers. As a major step towards achieving this goal, an Extended Interaction Klystron (EIK) pulse amplifier custom-built by the Communications and Power Industries, Inc. and producing up to 140 W at 197.

Background: Osteoporosis with low trabecular bone quality (OLB) in patients with breast cancer receiving aromatase inhibitor (AI) therapy is associated with an increased risk of vertebral fractures. The capability of chemical shift-encoded MRI (CSE-MRI) in detecting OLB needs to be investigated.
Purpose: To assess the diagnostic performance of proton density fat fraction (PDFF) and R2* measurements from CSE-MRI for detecting OLB in postmenopausal women with breast cancer undergoing AI therapy.
In this paper, we propose a serial electro-optical (EO)-modulation-based microwave photonic in-phase and quadrature (I/Q) mixer and investigate its performance for wideband frequency downconversion. The proposed I/Q mixer uses two EO modulators and a programmable optical processor in a serially cascaded structure, which ensures good phase stability and flexibility to achieve high-performance broadband frequency downconversion. A proof-of-concept experiment is carried out in which the frequency downconversion of the RF signals in the range from 10 to 40 GHz is demonstrated with an average image rejection ratio of 38.
