Objective: To detect the point mutations by chip-based capillary electrophoresis and to provide a rapid and sensitive technique detection for beta-thalassemia.

Methods: Multiplex primer-extension reaction was used to amplify the common loci of the samples for beta-thalassemia. The reaction products were detected by the chip-based capillary electrophoresis and the genotypes of the samples were discrened.

Results: A system was constructed to detect the point mutations of beta-thalassemia by chip-based capillary electrophoresis, and the technology was ralidated by the patients' samples and the results coincided with those of detection kit.

Conclusion: Beta-thalassemia can be detected by chip-based capillary electrophoresis rapidly with a small amount of samples. It would be a new detection method of the genetic disorders.

We present a novel chip-based device featuring a pinhole emitter for mass spectrometry (MS) coupling with integrated fluidic back-pressure regulation for supercritical mobile phases. This design enables facile coupling of packed capillary columns used for supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) with atmospheric pressure ionization mass spectrometry. The monolithic microfluidic chips were fabricated using selective laser-induced etching, seamlessly integrating multiple functions, including comb-shaped particle retention structures for column packing and ports for zero-clearance connection with standard fused silica capillaries.

Objective: Microfluidics has emerged as a promising technique to prepare nanoparticles. However, the current microfluidic devices are mainly chip-based and are often integrated into expensive systems that lack on-the-spot versatility. The aim of this study was to set up a modular microfluidic system based on low-cost capillaries and reusable, easy-to-clean building blocks that can prepare poly(D,L-lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles with and without incorporated water-soluble biomacromolecules.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study highlights a novel method using microfluidic chip-based capillary zone electrophoresis-mass spectrometry (μCZE-MS) for the simultaneous measurement of ATP and its analogues in biological fluids, addressing limitations of traditional methods.
  • - It successfully employed a novel ZipChip Interface to separate and identify nucleotide standards, ATP, ADP, AMP, and adenosine in plasma and BALF from rats, demonstrating quick and direct detection capabilities while emphasizing the need to protect these molecules using chelators like EDTA.
  • - The μCZE-MS method is not only effective for nucleotide analysis but also shows promise for metabolite detection, suggesting its potential for advancing research on extracellular ATP in diseases and developing ATP-target

Due to the excessive contamination of heavy metals pollution, it is very urgent and necessary to develop a real-time detection method for the heavy metals in food. As a target sensing device, a paper-based microfluidic device (μPAD) has the advantages of simplicity, low-cost, and portability. In this study, a self-driven microfluidic paper-based chip was first developed for the simultaneous detection of four targets.

Fluorescent microspheres (FMs) are tiny particles with special functions that are widely employed in biological research. Counting of microscale FMs is a great challenge by capillary electrophoresis. Herein we developed a method to count 2 μm FMs based on a microfluidic chip with a gradual change in inner size.
