This paper, describing electron ionization mass spectral fragmentation of some hydroxycarboxylic and oxocarboxylic acid trimethylsilyl derivatives, focuses on the formation of fragment ions resulting from the interactions between the two functionalities of these compounds. These interactions result in the formation of fragment ions at [CH2=C(OTMS)2]+., [CH2=CHC(OTMS)=OTMS]+, [M-31]+, [M-105]+, and [M-RCHO]+. in the case of hydroxycarboxylic acid trimethylsilyl derivatives of formula RCHOTMS(CH2)nCOOTMS and at [RC(OTMS)=CH2]+., [RC(=OTMS)CH=CH2]+, and [M-RC(=O)CH2]+ in the case of oxocarboxylic acid trimethylsilyl esters of formula RC(=O)(CH2)nCOOTMS. Some of these fragmentations appeared to be sufficiently specific to be used to characterize these compounds. Several fragmentation pathways involving trimethylsilyl and hydrogen transfers were proposed to explain the formation of these different fragment ions and were substantiated by deuterium labeling.

Dicarboxylic acids (DCAs), with their deliquescence and hygroscopic nature, can function as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) and ice nuclei (IN), affecting rainfall patterns. DCA analysis can serve as organic molecular markers for anthropogenic and biogenic sources. Very few studies deal with the optimization of the protocol for qualitative and quantitative analysis of DCAs using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).

Perpendicular nanochannel creation of two-dimensional (2D) nanostructures requires highly controlled anisotropic drilling processes of the entire structure via void formation. However, chemical approaches for the creation of porosity and defects of 2D nanostructures have been challenging due to the strong basal plane chemical stability and the use of harsh reactants, tending to give randomly corroded 2D structures. In this study, we introduce Lewis acid-base conjugates (LABCs) as molecular drillers with attenuated chemical reactivity which results in the well-defined perpendicular nanochannel formation of 2D TiS nanoplates.

The rising popularity of bioconjugate therapeutics has led to growing interest in late-stage functionalization (LSF) of peptide scaffolds. α,β-Unsaturated amino acids like dehydroalanine (Dha) derivatives have emerged as particularly useful structures, as the electron-deficient olefin moiety can engage in late-stage functionalization reactions, like a Giese-type reaction. Cheap and widely available building blocks like organohalides can be converted into alkyl radicals by means of photoinduced silane-mediated halogen-atom transfer (XAT) to offer a mild and straightforward methodology of alkylation.

Article Synopsis
  • A new reducing agent based on hydrosilanes (Si-H) allows for synthesis of high-quality, monodisperse InAs CQDs with tunable excitonic peaks, avoiding harmful compounds that cause surface oxidation.
  • These CQDs exhibit excellent optoelectronic properties, leading to photodetectors with low dark current, good quantum efficiency, and fast photoresponse times, while eliminating a major barrier related to (TMS)As usage
