Fourier-based transfer theory is extended into the temporal domain to describe both spatial and temporal noise processes in quantum-based medical imaging systems. Lag is represented as a temporal scatter in which the release of image quanta is delayed according to a probability density function. Expressions describing transfer of the spatiotemporal Wiener noise power spectrum through quantum gain and scatter processes are derived. Lag introduces noise correlations in the temporal domain in proportion to the correlated noise component only. The effect of lag is therefore dependent on both spatial and temporal physical processes. A simple model of a fluoroscopic system shows that image noise is reduced by a factor that is similar to Wagner's information bandwidth integral, which depends on the temporal modulation transfer function.

Unlabelled: Circadian rhythms in mammals arise from the spatiotemporal synchronization of ∼20,000 neuronal clocks in the Suprachiasmatic Nucleus (SCN). While anatomical, molecular, and genetic approaches have revealed diverse cell types and signaling mechanisms, the network wiring that enables SCN cells to communicate and synchronize remains unclear. To overcome the challenges of revealing functional connectivity from fixed tissue, we developed MITE (Mutual Information & Transfer Entropy), an information theory approach that infers directed cell-cell connections with high fidelity.

This pilot study investigated the potential of a newly developed shoe design to improve gait parameters without altering muscle activity in healthy women. The shoe design features a V-shaped heel and a high-elasticity midsole, which are intended to enhance stability during heel contact and promote efficient load transfer throughout the gait cycle. Ten study participants underwent a randomized crossover design, wearing developed and general shoes during the trials.

Electroencephalography (EEG) provides high temporal resolution neural data for brain-computer interfacing via noninvasive electrophysiological recording. Estimating the internal brain activity by means of source imaging techniques can further improve the spatial resolution of EEG and enhance the reliability of neural decoding and brain-computer interaction. In this work, we propose a novel EEG data-driven source imaging scheme for precise and efficient estimation of macroscale spatiotemporal brain dynamics across thalamus and cortical regions with deep learning methods.

The hemostatic, inflammatory, proliferative, and remodeling phases of healing require precise spatiotemporal coordination and orchestration of numerous biological processes. As the primary energy generators in the cell, mitochondria play multifunctional roles in regulating metabolism, stress reactions, immunity, and cell density during the process of tissue regeneration. Mitochondrial dynamics involves numerous crucial processes, fusion, fission, autophagy, and translocation, which are all necessary for preserving mitochondrial function, distributing energy throughout cells, and facilitating cellular signaling.

Understanding how visual information is encoded in biological and artificial systems often requires the generation of appropriate stimuli to test specific hypotheses, but available methods for video generation are scarce. Here we introduce the spatiotemporal style transfer (STST) algorithm, a dynamic visual stimulus generation framework that allows the manipulation and synthesis of video stimuli for vision research. We show how stimuli can be generated that match the low-level spatiotemporal features of their natural counterparts, but lack their high-level semantic features, providing a useful tool to study object recognition.
