We show that reflection losses suffered by discrete solitons along sharp bends in two-dimensional waveguide-array networks can be almost eliminated. Analysis indicates that this can be accomplished by appropriately engineering the corner site of the bend. Our analytical results are verified by numerical simulations.

Atmospheric refraction imposes a fundamental limitation on the accuracy and precision of geodetic measurements that utilize electromagnetic waves. For terrestrial observations at optical wavelengths recorded over flat terrain, the vertical temperature gradient controls the bending of the rays thus affecting mostly the vertical angle measurement. The rules of thumb for mitigating these effects (variation ranges and short-term fluctuations) are based on intuition and practitioner experience.

Translocation across barriers and through constrictions is a mechanism that is often used in vivo for transporting material between compartments. A specific example is apicomplexan parasites invading host cells through the tight junction that acts as a pore, and a similar barrier crossing is involved in drug delivery using lipid vesicles penetrating intact skin. Here, we use triangulated membranes and energy minimization to study the translocation of vesicles through pores with fixed radii.

: Surgery for adolescent idiopathic deformities is often aimed at improving aesthetic appearance, striving for the best possible correction. However, severe and rigid scoliotic curves not only present aesthetic issues but can also compromise cardiopulmonary health and cause early neurological impairment due to spinal cord compression, posing significant risks of morbidity and mortality if untreated. Conservative treatments are ineffective for severe curves, defined by scoliotic angles over 70° and flexibility below 30% on lateral bending X-rays.

The Diamond lattice cylindrical shell (Diamond LCS) was proposed by a mapping approach based on the triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS). The finite element models were built and their accuracy was verified by experimental results. Parameter studies were carried out to investigate the effect of geometric and loading parameters on the bending properties of the Diamond LCSs by the finite element model.

The increasing demand for advanced transparent and flexible display technologies has led to significant research in thin-film transistors (TFTs) with high mobility, transparency, and mechanical robustness. In this study, we fabricated all-transparent TFTs (AT-TFTs) utilizing amorphous indium-zinc-tin-oxide (a-IZTO) as a dual-functional material for both the channel layer and transparent conductive electrodes (TCEs). The a-IZTO was deposited using radio-frequency magnetron sputtering, with its composition adjusted for both channel and electrode functionality.
