Three protected derivatives of 1,N(6)-ethenoadenine nucleosides, viz. 3-[5-O-(4,4'-dimethoxytrityl) of 7-formyl-(1) and 7-(1,2-diacetyloxypropyl)-2'-deoxyadenosine (2), and 3-[5-O-(4,4'-dimethoxytrityl)-2-O-(tert-butyldimethylsilyl)-7-(ethoxycarbonyl)adenosine (3), expected to allow introduction of formyletheno and carboxyethenoadenine adducts into oligonucleotides by the conventional phosphoramidite chemistry, have been synthesized.

Cadmium, a toxic heavy metal, poses significant global concern. A strain of the genus Pseudomonas, CD3, demonstrating significant cadmium resistance (up to 3 mM CdCl.HO) was identified from a pool of 26 cadmium-resistant bacteria isolated from cadmium-contaminated soil samples from Malda, India.

Lipid metabolism is critical for male reproduction in plants. Many lipid-metabolic genic male-sterility (GMS) genes function in the anther tapetal endoplasmic reticulum, while little is known about GMS genes involved in de novo fatty acid biosynthesis in the anther tapetal plastid. Although acute myeloid leukemia (AML) affects hematopoietic stem cell (HSC)-supportive microenvironment, it is largely unknown whether leukemia-modified bone marrow (BM) microenvironment can be remodeled to support normal hematopoiesis after complete remission (CR). As a key element of BM microenvironment, endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) provide a feasible way to investigate BM microenvironment remodeling. Here, we find reduced and dysfunctional BM EPCs in AML patients, characterized by impaired angiogenesis and high ROS levels, could be partially remodeled after CR and improved by N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC).
