Pleomorphic adenoma of the parapharyngeal space is a rare benign tumor, representing less than 1% of tumors of the parapharyngeal space. Considering the volume of the tumor, the complexity of the space and the potential difficulties of excision, an imaging work-up including at least computed tomography (CT) and/or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and possibly analysis of the vascular axes (angio-MRI, arteriography) is essential. Treatment of these tumors is essentially surgical.

The underlying pathophysiology involves reduced ciliary motility due to defects in ciliary structure and function within the respiratory tract and fallopian tubes. Diagnosis is typically confirmed through imaging studies such as X-rays, CT scans, and echocardiograms, which reveal the abnormal orientation of the heart and other organs.

BACKGROUND The bacterial organism Capnocytophaga canimorsus is an oral commensal of cats and dogs and can cause life-threatening infections like mycotic aneurysm, meningitis, and sepsis. Mycotic aneurysms occur when microbial infections cause arterial wall degeneration. Difficulty in diagnosing Capnocytophaga canimorsus infection can occur due to the bacteria's fastidious nature and laboratory testing limitations, contributing to the infection's high morbidity and mortality.
