A series of prodrugs of 3-mercaptopyruvate (3-MP), the substrate for the enzyme 3-mercaptopyruvate/cyanide sulfurtransferase (3-MPST) that converts cyanide to the nontoxic thiocyanate, which are highly effective cyanide antidotes, have been developed. These prodrugs of 3-MP are unique in being not only orally bioavailable, but may be administered up to an hour prior to cyanide as a prophylactic agent and are both rapid- or slow-acting when given parenterally.

Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Animal Resistance Biology, Key Laboratory of Food Nutrition and Safety of Shandong, College of Life Science, Normal University, Shandong Normal University, Jinan, 250014, People's Republic of China.

A composite nanomaterial of Prussian blue@gold nanoparticles (PB@Au) with catalytic and photothermal properties was proposed, which combined with anti-matrix interference aptamers to achieve robust specificity and sensitivity in the detection of Salmonella typhimurium (S. typhimurium). The detection probe, PB@Au-Aptamer (PB@Au-Apt), was designed to exhibit high specificity for the target and catalyze the signal generation to produce a color change, thereby enabling rapid detection.

Overcoming Nanosilver Resistance: Resensitizing Bacteria and Targeting Evolutionary Mechanisms.

ACS Nano

December 2024

School of Environment, Beijing Normal University, 19 Xinjiekouwai Street, Haidian District, Beijing 100875, China.

The rapid spread of antimicrobial resistance poses a critical threat to global health and the environment. Antimicrobial nanomaterials, including silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), are being explored as innovative solutions; however, the emergence of nanoresistance challenges their effectiveness. Understanding resistance mechanisms is essential for developing antievolutionary strategies.

Introduction: The persistence of in the contaminated environment is sustained by tolerance to biocides and ability to growth as biofilm. The aim of the study was to analyze the susceptibility of biofilms to chlorhexidine (CHX) and benzalkonium (BZK) biocides and the ability of natural monomeric stilbenoid resveratrol (RV) to modulate the phenomenon.

Methods: Biofilm formation and preformed biofilm were tested by Crystal violet and tetrazolium salt reduction assay, respectively.

Strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa) is a horticultural crop known for its sensitivity to mechanical damage and susceptibility to postharvest decay. In recent years, various strategies have been implemented to enhance both the yield and quality of strawberries, among which the application of nitric oxide-producing compounds has garnered special attention. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of varying concentrations of sodium nitroprusside (SNP), specifically 0, 200, 400, and 600 μM, on strawberries (cv.
