A study of 30 patients suffering of acute pneumonia indicates that the development of acute pneumonia occurs against the background of disorders of the functional activity of monocytes with prevalent reduction of the functional activity of phagocytosis and inhibition of the unspecific cellular antiviral resistance. Leucocytic interferon sharply activates phagocytosis. The number of phagocytic cells and activity of phagocytosis reduced and the number of virus-involved immunocompetent cells increased under the effect of antibiotics.

Topological indices are crucial tools for predicting the physicochemical and biological features of different drugs. They are numerical values obtained from the structure of chemical molecules. These indices, particularly the degree-based TIs are a useful tools for evaluating the connection between a compound's structure and its attributes.

The effects of vitamin D and vitamin A in immune cells are mediated through the vitamin D receptor (VDR) and retinoic acid receptor (RAR), respectively. These receptors share the retinoid X receptor (RXR) co-factor for transcriptional regulation. We investigated the effects of active vitamin D (1,25(OH)D) and 9-cis retinoic acid (9cRA) on T helper (T)1 and T2 cytokines and transcription factors in primary human blood-derived CD4 T cells.

In the tumour microenvironment, IL-1α promotes neoangiogenesis, matrix remodelling, tumour proliferation, chemoresistance, and metastases. Highly expressed in human colorectal cancers, IL-1α is associated with poor prognosis. XB2001, a fully human monoclonal antibody neutralizing IL-1α, was evaluated for safety and preliminary efficacy with trifluridine/tipiracil (FTD/TPI) and bevacizumab in metastatic colorectal cancer patients previously treated with oxaliplatin- and irinotecan-based chemotherapies.

Objective: Undernutrition is a common issue for HIV and other immune suppressed patients. Approximately 462 million people worldwide living with HIV are experiencing undernutrition, with sub-Saharan Africa having the highest prevalence. Good adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) indirectly helps prevent undernutrition by suppressing viral load, increasing CD4 count, preventing viral resistance, enhancing immune reconstitution and delaying disease progression in HIV patients.

Ligand-functionalized InP-based quantum dots (QDs) have been developed as an innovative class of nontoxic photosensitizer suitable for antimicrobial applications, aimed at reducing or preventing pathogen transmission from one host to another via high contact surfaces. A hot injection method followed by functionalization via ligand exchange with 9-anthracene carboxylic acid (ACA) yielded the desired core/shell InP/ZnSe/ZnS QDs. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed these QDs to be uniform in size (∼3.
