Until recently breeding efforts centred on high-yield production while sacrificing flavour and taste quality traits of mass produced food products, such as tomatoes. The recent publication of Davidovich-Rikanati et al. demonstrates the technical feasibility of the genetical engineering of pathways in tomato plants to modify their fruit flavour profile in a proof-of-concept approach. The reported work ranks among an increasing number of reported successful modifications of edible plants with a focus on the benefits to end-consumers.

The present study included the environmentally friendly production of stable nickel nanoparticles (NiO NPs) using lemon and tomato, followed by their analysis and evaluation for their antibacterial properties against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus cereus. The Nickel oxide nanoparticles produced exhibited their maximum absorption at 276 nm in the UV-vis spectrum. The image captured FESEM revealed smooth nanofibers with an average diameter of around 259 ± 3.

Flesh firmness is a core quality trait in apple breeding because of its correlation with ripening and storage. Quantitative trait loci (QTLs) were analyzed through bulked segregant analysis sequence (BSA-seq) and comparative transcriptome analysis (RNA-seq) to explore the genetic basis of firmness formation. In this study, phenotypic data were collected at harvest from 251 F hybrids derived from 'Ruiyang' and 'Scilate', the phenotype values of flesh firmness at harvest were extensively segregated for two consecutive years.

Some members of the SELF PRUNING (SP) gene family have been shown to play critical roles in developmental processes and stress responses across a wide range of plant species. The study identifies 13 members that can be divided into three subfamilies based on evolutionary analysis. Cis-Acting element analysis of the promoter regions indicated the presence of numerous stress- and hormone-responsive elements in the SlSP family.
