Drug repurposing has emerged as an effective strategy against infectious diseases such as visceral leishmaniasis. Here, we evaluated four FDA-approved drugs-valrubicin, ciclesonide, deflazacort, and telithromycin-for their anti-leishmanial activity on Leishmania donovani parasites, especially their ability to target the enzyme glutathione synthetase (LdGS), which enables parasite survival under oxidative stress in host macrophages. Valrubicin and ciclesonide exhibited superior inhibitory effects compared to deflazacort and telithromycin, inhibiting the promastigotes at very low concentrations, with IC values of 1.

() is an emergent zoonotic food-related pathogen that can be transmitted through the consumption of poultry meat. Data regarding the pathogenicity and resistance of are still scarce, and the presence of virulent MDR strains of this zoonotic pathogen in poultry meat is an issue of particular concern to public health. This study aimed to characterize the pathogenicity and antimicrobial resistance profiles of strains isolated from poultry meat sold at retail markets in São Paulo, Brazil.

Methicillin-resistant (MRSA) is an emerging pathogen that is difficult to treat due to the multiresistance of the bacteria upon infection. From 2011 to 2016, 1581 strains were isolated from 4300 samples from retail foods covering most provincial capitals in China. To determine the prevalence of food-related MRSA and its genetic background in China, antibiotic resistance, staphylococcal toxin genes, staphylococcal cassette chromosome () typing, -typing and MLST were carried out in this study.

Leprosy is a chronic infection of skin and nerve caused by Mycobacterium leprae. The treatment is based on standard multi drug therapy consisting of dapsone, rifampicin and clofazamine. The use of rifampicin alone or with dapsone led to the emergence of rifampicin-resistant Mycobacterium leprae strains.
