The widely used setup for the generation of femtosecond infrared (IR) pulses based on parametric amplifiers (OPAs) and difference frequency mixing (DFM) is extended to produce tunable narrowband mid-IR pulses. The insertion of pairs of silicon prisms after the OPA induces adjustable chirp, which leads to the generation of narrowband pulses in the DFM stage. Rapid tunability of the mid-IR wavelength via a computer-controllable actuator can be achieved in a range of approximately 200 cm(-1) at a bandwidth of the IR-pulses between approximately 15 and approximately 50 cm(-1) and pulse energies up to 0.4 microJ. The narrowband mid-IR pulses are well suited for 2D IR spectroscopy.

The art and science of translucent color organic solar cells.

Nat Commun

January 2025

Department of Physics, Research Centre of Excellence for Organic Electronics and Institute of Advanced Materials, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong, China.

The artistic and scientific perspectives of the translucent color organic solar cells (OSCs), made with the emerging narrowband nonfullerene acceptors are explored. The translucent color OSCs, comprising a Fabry-Pérot microcavity optical coupling layer, have a power conversion efficiency of >15% and a maximum transparency of >20% for the three primary colors. The performance-color relationship of the translucent color OSCs is analyzed using a combination of high-throughput optical computing and experimental optimization, allowing light with desired color to pass through, while absorbing enough light to generate electricity.

Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Tianjin First Central Hospital, Tianjin, China.

Background: The early diagnosis of glottic laryngeal cancer is the key to successful treatment, and machine learning (ML) combined with narrow-band imaging (NBI) laryngoscopy provides a new idea for the early diagnosis of glottic laryngeal cancer.

Objective: To explore the clinical applicability of the diagnosis of early glottic cancer based on ML combined with NBI.

Material And Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 200 patients diagnosed with laryngeal mass, and the general clinical characteristics and pathological results of the patients were collected.

The development of narrowband emissive, bright, and stable solution-processed organic light-emitting diodes (SP-OLEDs) remains a challenge. Here, a strategy is presented that merges within a single emitter a TADF sensitizer responsible for exciton harvesting and an MR-TADF motif that provides bright and narrowband emission. This emitter design also shows strong resistance to aggregate formation and aggregation-cause quenching.

Background And Aim: Qualitative diagnosis of ulcerative colitis-associated neoplasia (UCAN) is crucial for surveillance colonoscopy in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). Although the utility of magnifying endoscopy with narrow-band imaging (ME-NBI) in sporadic neoplasia diagnosis has been reported, its efficacy in UCAN remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the usefulness of ME-NBI for qualitative diagnosis of UCAN.
