The relationships of opportunistic P. mirabilis and K. pneumoniae, both having proteolytic properties, with enteric cells in white mice have been studied on a ligated intestinal loop, used as an experimental model, by electron microscopy. This investigation has shown that the strains under study are capable of damaging the membrane of the jagged edge of enteric cells at the distance of the spread of proteolytic metabolites. This damage is reversible, presenting as compensatory protective reaction of the cells.

C1orf115 has been identified in high-throughput screens as a regulator of multidrug resistance possibly mediated through an interaction with ATP-dependent membrane transporter ABCB1. Here we show that C1orf115 not only shares structural similarities with FACI/C11orf86 to interact with clathrin adaptors to undergo endocytosis, but also induces ABCA1 transcription to promote cholesterol efflux. C1orf115 consists of an N-terminal intrinsically disordered region and a C-terminal α-helix.

Unlabelled: Porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV) is an enteric pathogen that burdens the global pig industry and is a public health concern. The development of effective antiviral therapies is necessary for the prevention and control of PDCoV, yet to date, there are few studies on the therapeutic potential of PDCoV-neutralizing antibodies. Here, we investigate the therapeutic potential of a novel monoclonal antibody (mAb 4A6) which targets the PDCoV S1 protein and effectively neutralizes PDCoV, both pre- and post-attachment on cells, with IC50 values of 0.

Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic condition influenced by diet, which affects gut microbiota and immune functions. The rising prevalence of IBD, linked to Western diets in developing countries, highlights the need for dietary interventions. This study aimed to assess the impact of white kidney beans (WKB) on gut inflammation and microbiota changes, focusing on their effects on enteric glial cells (EGCs) and immune activity in colitis.

Nonylphenol (NP), a ubiquitous environmental contaminant used as a surfactant in industrial production and classified as an endocrine disruptor, could interfere hormone secretion and exhibit neurotoxicity in organisms. Hirschsprung's disease (HSCR), one of the most frequently observed congenital malformations of the digestive system, arises mainly due to the failure of enteric neural crest cells to migrate to the distal colon during embryonic development. However, the effects of NP exposure on HSCR are largely unknown.

Recent studies have revealed that formononetin, a naturally occurring isoflavone found in kudzu root and licorice, has the potential to inhibit ferroptosis in intestinal epithelial cells. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) often involves oxidative stress-related pathways, making the modulation of ferroptosis a promising therapeutic avenue. We employed a combination of several techniques to explore how formononetin regulates the retinoid X receptor alpha/peroxisome proliferator activated receptor gamma (RXRA/PPARG) pathway to inhibit ferroptosis in Fetal Human Colonic Epithelial Cells (FHC) induced by RSL3.
