When people observe competitions, they are often drawn to figures that are seen as disadvantaged or unlikely to prevail. The present research tested the scope and limits of people's support for underdogs. The first two studies demonstrated, in the context of Olympic matches (Study 1) and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (Study 2), that observers' support for a competitor increased when framing it as an underdog. The final two studies explored mechanisms underlying support for underdogs. Study 3 showed that participants attributed more effort to a team when they believed it to be an underdog, and perceptions of effort mediated liking. In Study 4, participants reading a hypothetical sporting event supported a team with a low probability of success and labeled it an underdog unless it had greater resources than an opponent, suggesting that low expectations by themselves do not engender support if positive outcomes are not seen as deserved.

The noncanonical ubiquitin-like conjugation cascade involving the E1 (Atg7), E2 (Atg3, Atg10), and E3 (Atg12-Atg5-Atg16 complex) enzymes is essential for incorporation of Atg8 into the growing phagophore via covalent linkage to PE. This process is an indispensable step in autophagy. Atg8 and E1-E3 enzymes are the first subset from the core autophagy protein machinery structures that were investigated in earlier studies by crystallographic analyses of globular domains.

In today's digital era, households are empowered by digital servitization, which could potentially impact their ability to become entrepreneurs. Using data from the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) and the National Bureau of Statistics of China, we construct the digital servitization index to analyze the impact of digital servitization on household entrepreneurship. The results show that the utilization of digital servitization by households significantly increases the likelihood of them engaging in entrepreneurial endeavors.

Study Question: To what extent do self-reported sleep duration and non-daytime work schedules in either partner affect the rate of spontaneous abortion (SAB)?
Summary Answer: Incidence of SAB had little association with female sleep duration and a modest positive association with male short sleep duration, female work at night, and discrepant work schedules among partners.
What Is Known Already: Several studies have reported an association between short sleep duration in either partner and reproductive health outcomes, including fecundability. Moreover, certain types of female occupational exposures during pregnancy have been associated with an increased risk of SAB.

Our understanding of host-microbe interactions has broadened through numerous studies over the past decades. However, most investigations primarily focus on the dominant members within ecosystems while neglecting low-abundance microorganisms. Moreover, laboratory animals usually do not have microorganisms beyond bacteria.
