Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a multisystem condition that could affect the cutaneous systems, namely cutaneous extraintestinal manifestations (EIMs). It has been suggested that IBD is associated with erythema nodosum (EN), malignant melanoma (MM) and non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC). However, the potential causal relationship between IBD and the mentioned above cutaneous EIMs is still unclear.

Introduction: Stroke patients are at high risk of developing cerebral edema, which can have severe consequences. However, there are currently few effective tools for early identification or prediction of this risk. As machine learning (ML) is increasingly used in clinical practice, its effectiveness in predicting cerebral edema risk in stroke patients has been explored.

Branched-chain amino acids levels associated with risk of erectile dysfunction: A Mendelian randomization analysis.

Exp Gerontol

January 2025

Zhujiang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, Guangdong 510280, China; School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, Guangdong 510515, China. Electronic address:

Background: Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a prevalent male sexual dysfunction that remarkably impacts patients' quality of life and is also recognized as a precursor to cardiovascular disease (CVD) events. Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) are derived from dietary intake and mainly involved in energy metabolism. Previous studies have underscored the association between BCAAs and CVD, but the causal link between BCAAs and ED remains uncertain.

Investigating the causal relationship between skin microbiota and hypertrophic scar using bidirectional mendelian randomization.

January 2025

Department of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430030, China. Electronic address:

Background: Hypertrophic scar (HS) is acknowledged as a pathological fibro-proliferative disease of the dermis, resulting from excessive connective tissue growth. HS significantly impacts patient quality of life due to both social and functional issues. Despite various treatments, therapeutic effectiveness remains limited, necessitating further exploration of underlying factors and mechanisms.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) and myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) frequently occur together; yet their causal relationship remains unclear. To investigate the potential genetic causal link between these conditions, we conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. Summary data from Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) for MDD were sourced from the UK Biobank and the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium, while GWAS data for ME/CFS were retrieved from the UK Biobank.
