The molecule of the title compound, [Mn(4)Al(CH(3))(2)(C(3)H(7)O(2))(4)I(5)(C(4)H(8)O)], contains one Al(III) and four Mn(II) ions. Two Mn atoms are five-coordinate in the form of a trigonal bipyramid or a square pyramid. The two other Mn atoms are six-coordinate with an octahedral geometry. The fourcoordinate Al atom is linked to the manganese core by mu-O(alkoxo) bridges, forming an almost planar five-membered ring.

The reactions of anionic platinum carbonyl Chini clusters [Pt(CO)] [n = 2 (1), 3 (2), 4 (3)] with Ag(IPr)Cl [IPr = CNH(CHPr)] afford the neutral acid-base Lewis adducts [Pt(CO)(AgIPr)] (4) and [Pt(CO)(AgIPr)] (5). These are thermally transformed into the homometallic heteroleptic neutral cluster [Pt(CO)(IPr)] (6). Alternatively, 6 can be obtained from the reactions of 1-3 with an excess of the free IPr carbene ligand.

The synthesis of tetranuclear gold complexes, a structurally unprecedented octanuclear complex with a planar [Au(I) 8 ] core, and pentanuclear [Au(I) 4 M(I) ] (M=Cu, Ag) complexes is presented. The linear [Au(I) 4 ] complex undergoes C-H functionalization of carbonyl compounds under mild reaction conditions. In addition, [Au(I) 4 Ag(I) ] catalyzes the carbonylation of primary amines to form ureas under homogeneous conditions with efficiencies higher than those achieved by gold nanoparticles.

We have previously described Pb(II) and Bi(III) bimetallic complexes with overhanging carboxylic acid strapped porphyrins in which one metal ion is bound to the N-core ("out-of-plane", OOP), whereas the second one is bound to the strap ("hanging-atop", HAT). In such complexes, the hemidirected coordination sphere of a HAT Pb(II) cation provides sufficient space for an additional binding of a neutral ligand (e.g.

Article Synopsis
  • The study reports the synthesis of five heterometallic Mn(III)Fe(II) polynuclear compounds, all with the same chemical formula but differing in structural properties (0D, 1D, 2D).
  • The complex [Mn(acacen)MeOH](2)[Fe(CN)(5)NO]·1.5MeOH is created through a reaction involving a Mn(III)/Schiff base complex and sodium nitroprusside, leading to various coordination compounds based on solvent used during crystallization.
  • Magnetic measurements indicate that these compounds exhibit weak antiferromagnetic interactions between Mn(III) spins, and none show significant photoactivity.

Using the tricyano precursor (Bu(4)N)[(Tp)Cr(CN)(3)] (Bu(4)N(+) = tetrabutylammonium cation; Tp = tris(pyrazolyl)hydroborate), a pentanuclear heterometallic cluster [(Tp)(2)Cr(2)(CN)(6)Cu(3)(Me(3)tacn)(3)][(Tp)Cr(CN)(3)](ClO(4))(3)·5H(2)O (1, Me(3)tacn = N,N',N'-trimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane), three tetranuclear heterometallic clusters [(Tp)(2)Cr(2)(CN)(6)Cu(2)(L(OEt))(2)]·2.5CH(3)CN (2, L(OEt) = [(Cp)Co(P(O)(OEt)(2))(3)], Cp = cyclopentadiene), [(Tp)(2)Cr(2)(CN)(6)Mn(2)(L(OEt))(2)]·4H(2)O (3), and [(Tp)(2)Cr(2)(CN)(6)Mn(2)(phen)(4)](ClO(4))(2) (4, phen = phenanthroline), and a one-dimensional (1D) chain polymer [(Tp)(2)Cr(2)(CN)(6)Mn(bpy)](n) (5, bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) have been synthesized and structurally characterized. Complex 1 shows a trigonal bipyramidal geometry in which [(Tp)Cr(CN)(3)](-) units occupy the apical positions and are linked through cyanide to [Cu(Me(3)tacn)](2+) units situated in the equatorial plane.
