With the aim of determining the differential expression of WNT and FZD genes, before and after induction of apoptosis in BCR-ABL positive cells, we treated the myeloid cell line K562 and control cell line HL60 with imatinib mesylate and etoposide, and analyzed relative mRNA expression levels of WNT, FZD and sFRP genes under normal and apoptotic conditions by real-time RT-PCR. We observed marked increase in mRNA levels of FZD4, FZD5, FZD7 and WNT5b, correlating with apoptotic activity and independent of the agent or cell line used. Our results suggest the involvement of non-canonical Wnt signaling in executing programmed cell death in myeloid cell lines.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the malignant tumors globally, with high morbidity and mortality rates. The mainstay treatment of CRC includes surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. However, these treatments are associated with a high recurrence rate, poor prognosis, and highly toxic side effects.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a type of head and neck cancer (HNC) with a high recurrence rate, which has been reported to be associated with the presence of cancer stem cells (CSCs). Tribbles pseudokinase 3 (TRIB3) is involved in intracellular signaling and the aim of the present study was to investigate the role of TRIB3 in the maintenance of CSCs. Analysis of The Cancer Genome Atlas database samples demonstrated a positive correlation between TRIB3 expression levels and shorter overall survival rates in patients with HNC.

Globally, breast cancer continues to be the leading type of cancer affecting women, with rising mortality rates projected by 2030. This highlights the importance of developing new, affordable treatments, like drug delivery systems that use nanoparticles. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), including their exceptional optical and physical attributes, make them an attractive vehicle for targeted treatment, allowing for accurate and focused delivery of medication directly to cancerous cells while reducing harmful side effect.

Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) are an emerging strategy in cancer therapy, enhancing precision and efficacy by linking targeted antibodies to potent cytotoxic agents. This study introduces a novel ADC that combines ribonuclease A (RNase A) with cetuximab (Cet), an anti-EGFR monoclonal antibody, through a polyethylene glycol (PEG) linker (RN-PEG-Cet), aimed to induce apoptosis in KRAS mutant colorectal cancer (CRC) via a ROS-mediated pathway. RN-PEG-Cet was successfully synthesized and characterized for its physicochemical properties, retaining full enzymatic activity in RNA degradation and high binding affinity to EGFR.

Yttrium oxide nanoparticles (YONPs) have emerged as a promising avenue for cancer therapy, primarily due to their distinctive properties that facilitate selective targeting of cancer cells. Despite their potential, the therapeutic effects of YONPs on human epidermoid skin cancer remain largely unexplored. This study was thus conducted to investigate the impact of YONPs on both human skin normal and cancer cells, with an emphasis on assessing their cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, and the mechanisms underlying these effects.
