The process of new blood vessel formation from pre-existing vessels is known as angiogenesis. This process is important, both during physiological processes such as development and during wound healing, as well as during pathological processes, such as cancer and arthritis. Understanding the molecular mechanism of the regulation of angiogenesis and the identification of the key players involved in this process may help identify new therapeutic targets to combat and control angiogenesis and hence arthritis and cancer. This review focuses on a recently identified novel cell adhesion molecule, Junctional Adhesion Molecule A, and its role in the process of regulating angiogenesis.

Results suggest that homophilic cadherin ligation selectively activates force-transduction, such that resulting signaling and mechano-transduction amplitudes are independent of cadherin binding affinities. Subacute thyroiditis (SAT) is an inflammatory thyroid disease characterized by neck pain, tenderness, general symptoms, and thyroid dysfunction. Despite gaining new insights into the epidemiology, pathogenesis, and treatment of SAT in recent years, the exact pathogenesis and determinants of its clinical progression remain unclear. Polarized epithelial cells are compartmentalized into apical and basement membranes with asymmetrically distributed proteins. This study aimed to establish a method for culturing epithelial cells at the fluorinated oil (Novec-7500) microdroplet surface for the formation of epithelial polarity, which is desirable for regenerative medicine and drug discovery research. Microdroplet surfaces treated with fibronectin, which regulates a variety of cell behaviors through direct interactions with cell surface integrin receptors, were prepared for culturing epithelial cells.
