Objective: To report three cases of insulinoma associated with pregnancy.
Design: Case report.
Setting: Divisions of Endocrinology and Gastroenterologic Surgery, Hospital de Clínicas, University of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Patient(s): Three patients with hypoglycemic signs due to insulinoma appearing during pregnancy or shortly after delivery.
Intervention(s): Laparoscopic excision of insulinoma in two and laparotomy in one of the patients were performed after the end of their pregnancies.
Main Outcome Measure(s): Disappearance of hypoglycemic crises and histologic proof of insulinomas.
Result(s): In two of the three patients, hypoglycemia occurred within 2-12 weeks after delivery, suggesting that signs could have been masked because of metabolic changes during gestation; in the third patient, hypoglycemia appeared in the first trimester but was misinterpreted.
Conclusion(s): Insulinoma is often not suspected during the first trimester of pregnancy because signs resemble episodes of hypotension or emesis. Later, with the increase in insulin resistance, symptoms subside.

Background: Insulinoma is a neuroendocrine tumor, the main manifestation of which is hypoglycemia. However, the symptoms of hypoglycemia can be non-specific for a long time, especially outside provocative conditions, and quite often the tumor manifests from a life-threatening condition - hypoglycemic coma. In this regard, timely laboratory diagnosis of insulinoma and determination of its aggressive course is one of the priorities in modern researches.

Despite the importance of the Hippo pathway, the in vivo functions of TEAD in mammals have not been well established. By comparing mouse mutants lacking TEAD1 and TEAD2 (TEAD1/2) to those lacking YAP/TAZ, we found that TEAD1/2 have both YAP/TAZ-dependent and -independent functions during ventral telencephalon development.

We report the case of a 29-year-old male soldier with a time in service above 10 years, found to have asymptomatic long QT syndrome (LQTS), a condition associated with increased risk of potentially fatal ventricular arrhythmias, during a flight physical. A review of his past medical history revealed a transient QT prolongation during an episode of hypoglycemia due to endogenous hyperinsulinism caused by an insulinoma, as an infantryman 7 years earlier; the resolution of the QT prolongation was spontaneous. He was evaluated and considered fit for duty by cardiology.

Increasing evidence shows that pathogenic T cells in type 1 diabetes (T1D) that may have evaded negative selection recognize post-translational modified (PTM) epitopes of self-antigens. We have investigated the profiles of autoantibodies specifically targeting the deamidated epitopes of insulinoma antigen-2 extracellular domain (IA-2ec) to explore their relationship with T1D development. We compared the characteristics of autoantibodies targeting the IA-2ec Q>E epitopes (PTM IA-2ecA) as well as those targeting the IA-2ec unmodified epitopes (IA-2ecA) in participants across different stages of T1D development and in individuals with other types of diabetes and other kinds of autoimmunity.
