Background: Heterotopic ossification in the elbow, often caused by trauma or neurogenic factors, can lead to limited range of motion and physical impairment, while severe cases may result in debilitating loss of function. Complete bony ankylosis of the elbow, though rare, presents challenges in treatment due to complex anatomy and high recurrence rates, with limited literature on management and outcomes. This study retrospectively investigates cases of elbow ankylosis secondary to heterotopic ossification, assessing long-term functional outcomes following operative intervention and standardized rehabilitation.

Cryoneurolysis and Quadriplegia: A Case Report on Pain and Severe Spasticity Management.

Arch Rehabil Res Clin Transl

December 2024

Vancouver Island Health Authority, Victoria, BC, Canada.

Spasticity, a common symptom after spinal cord injury, often leads to pain, muscle contracture, and compromised daily activities. Cryoneurolysis, a minimally invasive, drug-free procedure for the treatment of pain, is now gaining recognition for treating spasticity. It involves using an ultrasound-guided probe to freeze and destroy overactive target nerves.

Functional alignment is a feasible alignment strategy in robotic assisted total knee arthroplasty for knee osteoarthritis with extra-articular deformity - A case series.

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Joint Replacement Unit, Kuala Lumpur Hospital, Ministry of Health Malaysia, Jalan Pahang, 50586 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Introduction: Extraarticular deformity (EAD) with knee arthritis is a complex condition involving tri-planar bone deformity with pathological malalignment and chronic soft tissue contracture or laxity in the knee joint. Intraarticular correction by TKA, which was previously performed with conventional manual jig by mechanical alignment technique, had its limits and difficulties especially extensive soft tissue release and risk of jeopardizing the collateral ligaments. Robotic technology allows for reproducible and precise execution of surgical plan and allows adjustment to various new personalised alignment philosophy including functional alignment (FA).

Purpose: Medial meniscus ramp lesions (MMRLs), lateral meniscus posterior root tears (LMPRTs), and anterolateral complex injuries (ALCIs) are major secondary stabiliser injuries associated with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the number of secondary stabiliser injuries on knee instability in ACL injuries.

Methods: Patients who underwent primary ACL reconstruction between January 2017 and May 2023 were enroled in this study.

Introduction: Percutaneous needle fasciotomy (PNF) is a non-invasive treatment option for finger flexion contractures caused by Dupuytren's disease. Variations in PNF techniques include the use of corticosteroid injection. In the presented randomised controlled trial, we compare the efficacy of PNF +/- corticosteroid injection in terms of reducing the recurrence rate.
