A Dual-Pipeline Lactate Removal Strategy to Reverse Vascular Hyperpermeability for the Management of Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Sepsis.

State Key Laboratory of Separation Membranes and Membrane Processes & Key Laboratory of Hollow Fiber Membrane Materials and Membrane Processes (MOE) & Tianjin Key Laboratory of Hollow Fiber Membrane Materials and Processes, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tiangong University, Tianjin, 300387, P. R. China.

Sepsis is an underappreciated yet severe threat to human life, marked by organ dysfunction and high mortality resulting from disordered inflammatory responses to blood infection. Unfortunately, no specific drugs are available for effective sepsis treatment. As a pivotal biomarker for sepsis, lactate levels are closely related to vascular permeability and sepsis-associated mortality.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to significant societal disruptions, prompting the Indonesian government to implement various measures, including partial lockdowns or Community Activities Restrictions Enforcement (CARE), to curb the virus's spread. This research aims to assess the impact of various environmental parameters on Cirebon's estuaries, focusing on physical components (such as temperature, total solids [TS], and turbidity), chemical components (including pH, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), dissolved oxygen (DO), nitrate, and phosphate), and microbiology components (specifically total coliforms). These comprehensive components have notably impacted environmental parameters during pre-, during, and post-COVID-19 pandemic based on the Water Quality Index (WQI) assessment in Cirebon's estuaries.

Background: This video article describes the use of bone-anchored prostheses for patients with transtibial amputations, most often resulting from trauma, infection, or dysvascular disease. Large studies have shown that about half of all patients with a socket-suspended artificial limb experience limited mobility and limited prosthesis use because of socket-related problems. These problems occur at the socket-residual limb interface as a result of a painful and unstable connection, leading to an asymmetrical gait and subsequent pelvic and back pain.

Resistance of cancer cells, especially breast cancer, to therapeutic medicines represents a major clinical obstacle that impedes the stages of treatment. Carcinoma cells that acquire resistance to therapeutic drugs can reprogram their own metabolic processes as a way to overcome the effectiveness of treatment and continue their reproduction processes. Despite the recent developments in medical research in the field of drug resistance, which showed some explanations for this phenomenon, the real explanation, along with the ability to precisely predict the possibility of its occurrence in breast cancer cells, still necessitates a deep consideration of the dynamics of the tumor's response to treatment.

Unravelling the impact of SARS-CoV-2 on hemostatic and complement systems: a systems immunology perspective.

Front Immunol

January 2025

School of Interdisciplinary Engineering and Sciences (SINES), Department of Sciences, National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, Pakistan.

The hemostatic system prevents and stops bleeding, maintaining circulatory integrity after injury. It directly interacts with the complement system, which is key to innate immunity. In coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), dysregulation of the hemostatic and complement systems has been associated with several complications.
