Background And Aims: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a prevalent bacterial infection that has substantial implications for healthcare on a global scale. () is a gram-negative rod responsible for most UTI cases. ESBL-producing is widely recognized as a significant contributor to antibiotic resistance.

Effectiveness and safety of biosimilars in pediatric inflammatory bowel diseases: an observational longitudinal study on the French National Health Data System.

World J Pediatr

January 2025

EPI-PHARE, French National Agency for Medicines and Health Products Safety (ANSM) and French National Health Insurance (CNAM), 143-147 Boulevard Anatole France, 93285, Saint-Denis, France.

Background: Data on biosimilar use in pediatric inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are scarce compared to the status of studies in adults, resulting in limitations in its treatment. We compared effectiveness and safety of biosimilars versus originators in this population.

Methods: We used data from the French National Health Data System to identify children (less than 18 years old at treatment initiation) initiating treatment with a biosimilar or the originator infliximab or adalimumab for Crohn's disease (CD) or ulcerative colitis (UC), from first biosimilar launch (January 2015 and October 2018, respectively) to 31 December 2022.

Background: Advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (aPDAC) is often accompanied by significant muscle mass loss, contributing to poor prognosis. SarcAPACaP, an ancillary study of the GERCOR-APACaP phase III trial, evaluated the role of adapted physical activity (APA) in aPDAC Western patients receiving first-line chemotherapy. The study aimed to assess (1) the potential impact of computed tomography (CT)-quantified muscle mass before and during treatments on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and overall survival (OS) and (2) the role of APA in mitigating muscle mass loss.

Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease that has been recognized, stigmatized, and treated for millennia. Recent translational research has revealed key mechanisms of disease, including cellular stress, innate immune activation, T cell-mediated elimination of melanocytes from the skin resulting in clinically apparent white spots, as well as stem cell regeneration that reverses established lesions. Many of these pathways have been targeted therapeutically, leading to the first FDA-approved medication to reverse the disease, with many more in clinical trials.

Airway Mycobiota-Microbiota During Pulmonary Exacerbation of Cystic Fibrosis Patients: A Culture and Targeted Sequencing Study.

Mycoses

January 2025

Unité de Parasitologie-Mycologie, Département de Prévention, Diagnostic et Traitement Des Infections, CHU Henri Mondor, Assistance Publique Des Hôpitaux de Paris (APHP), Creteil, France.

Background: The airways of patients with cystic fibrosis (pwCF) harbour complex fungal and bacterial microbiota involved in pulmonary exacerbations (PEx) and requiring antimicrobial treatment. Descriptive studies analysing bacterial and fungal microbiota concomitantly are scarce, especially using both culture and high-throughput-sequencing (HTS).

Objectives: We analysed bacterial-fungal microbiota and inter-kingdom correlations in two French CF centres according to clinical parameters and antimicrobial choices.
