On sexually matured male rabbits of Shinhilla breed kept in round-the-clock illumination within 5 months, dynamic of changes of structure of pineal gland was investigated. It was found the gradual, progressing in time loss of pinealocytes amount, arising due to their apoptosis, which points out hypolinealism development. Round-the-clock illumination should be considered as the factor promoting accelerated aging of pineal gland.

Photoreduction is recognized as a desirable treatment method for hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)). However, it has been limited by the intermittent solar flux and limited light absorption. In this work, a novel Z-scheme photocatalyst combining a covalent organic framework (COF) with Eu, Dy co-doped SrMgSiO (SrMgSiO:Eu, Dy) is synthesized, which shows the high spectral conversion efficiency and works efficiently in both light irradiation and dark for Cr(VI) reduction.

Article Synopsis
  • The combination of adsorption and photocatalysis is an effective way to eliminate organic pollutants from wastewater, particularly using TiO-based materials.
  • Three types of TiO nanomaterials (TiO, Ni-TiO, and Ag/Ni-TiO) were tested for their ability to remove tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH), showing varying removal capacities: 8.8 mg/g, 13.9 mg/g, and 23.4 mg/g respectively at an initial concentration of 50 mg/L.
  • The study highlights that chemical adsorption might be the key factor in the TCH removal process and that Ag/Ni-TiO can be activated indoors, using weak light, enabling effective pollutant degradation even

Cyano-deficient g-CN for round-the-clock photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline: Mechanism and application prospect evaluation.

Water Res

August 2024

Without light at night, the system for photocatalytic degradation of refractory organic pollutants in aquatic environments based on free radicals will fall into a dormant state. Hence, a round-the-clock photocatalyst (CCN@SMSED) was prepared by in situ growth of cyanide-deficient g-CN on the surface of SrMgSiO:Eu,Dy through a simple calcination method. The CCN@SMSED exhibits an outstanding oxidative degradation ability for refractory tetracycline (TC) in water under both light and dark conditions, which is attributed to the synergistic effect of free radical (•O and •OH) and non-radical (h and O).

In modern 24-hour society, various round-the-clock services have entailed shift work, resulting in non-24-hour schedules. However, the extent of behavioral and physiological alterations by non-24-hour schedules remains unclear, and particularly, effective interventions to restore the circadian functions of non-24-hour shift workers are rarely explored. In this study, we investigate the effects of a simulated non-24-hour military shift work schedule on daily rhythms and sleep, and establish an intervention measure to restore the circadian functions of non-24-hour shift workers.

Activities of enzymes of energy and carbohydrate metabolism in muscles and the liver were studied in Atlantic salmon Salmo salar L. smolts and parr grown under continuous or natural lighting and different feeding regimens in autumn followed by a short photoperiod in winter. Enzyme activities were found to differ between test and control salmon groups and between parr and smolts sampled at the end of the winter period.
