[Fine tissue studies of the nerve supply to the dental pulp in domestic sheep (O. ammon aries Linné, 1758)].

Published: December 1991

The nerve supply of the pulp was investigated in 17 sheep of various breeds and age groups belonging to both sexes, using light and electron microscopy. The following results were obtained: The dental pulp of sheep is supplied with myelinated and unmyelinated nerve fibres. The subodontoblastic plexus of Raschkow, as found in man, is absent in sheep. Single axons may be found in the predentine between the odontoblasts and near Tomes' processes. The rare occurrence of both subodontoblastic nerve fibres and cells of the immune system in the ovine pulp is discussed in relation to evolutionary processes, in light of the fact that sheep are relatively resistant to caries.

Background: The tooth exhibits increased sensitivity to noxious stimuli due to the dense innervation of thin myelinated Aδ fibers and unmyelinated C fibers within the dental pulp. While prior research has identified dynorphin expression in layers I-II of the dorsal horn across the spinal cord in various pain models, its functional role in trigeminal nociception, including tooth pain, remains underexplored. This study examines the potential role of dynorphin in the nociceptive processing of dental stimuli.

Distribution and morphology of CGRP-IR axons in flat-mounts of whole male and female mouse atria.

Auton Neurosci

November 2024

Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL, USA. Electronic address:

Due to a lack of anatomical studies utilizing female specimens, it is unclear how the nociceptive innervation of the mouse heart compares between sexes. To address this, flat-mount preparations of the left and right atria of male and female mice were immunohistochemically labeled for calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP, a common marker for nociceptive nerves), imaged, and digitally traced in high quality. The results show that 1) A network of CGRP-IR axons densely innervated the right and left atria.

Creating durable, motion-compliant neural interfaces is crucial for accessing dynamic tissues under in vivo conditions and linking neural activity with behaviors. Utilizing the self-alignment of nano-fillers in a polymeric matrix under repetitive tension, here, we introduce conductive carbon nanotubes with high aspect ratios into semi-crystalline polyvinyl alcohol hydrogels, and create electrically anisotropic percolation pathways through cyclic stretching. The resulting anisotropic hydrogel fibers (diameter of 187 ± 13 µm) exhibit fatigue resistance (up to 20,000 cycles at 20% strain) with a stretchability of 64.

Comparative studies on the development of nervous systems have a significant impact on understanding animal nervous system evolution. Nevertheless, an important question is to what degree neuronal structures, which play an important role in early stages, become part of the adult nervous system or are relevant for its formation. This is likely in many direct developers, but it is not the case in forms with catastrophic metamorphosis.

Lesion Location and Possible Etiology of Acute Unilateral Vestibulopathy.

Int J Gen Med

January 2025

Department of Neurology, Aerospace Center Hospital, Peking University Aerospace School of Clinical Medicine, Beijing, 100049, People's Republic of China.

Objective: Acute unilateral vestibulopathy (AUVP) is quite common in clinical practice, but lesion localization and etiological diagnosis of AUVP remain the current clinical challenges, and have always been the focus for researchers. The study aimed to explore the lesion site and possible etiology of AUVP.

Methods: This study is a retrospective study.
