McMaster University, Department of Surgery, Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, Hamilton, ON, Canada.
Background: Hip and knee arthroplasty are a fundamental part of modern orthopaedic practice. These procedures often require extensive postoperative analgesia, including opiate painkillers that are frequently associated with adverse side effects and risk of abuse. This review, therefore, investigated how postoperative administration of non-opioid co-analgesics (e.

Background: As the mandatory X-waiver requirements for prescribing buprenorphine have recently been lifted, general practitioners are being relied on to fill the treatment gap in prescribing medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). However, insufficient clinician education remains a major barrier to prescribing MOUD in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Objective: To evaluate the impact of a new MOUD curriculum on internal medicine (IM) residents' attitudes, comfort, and knowledge of buprenorphine in the inpatient and outpatient settings.

Background: Problematic opioid use that emerges in a subset of individuals may be due to preexisting disruptions in the biobehavioral mechanisms that regulate drug use. The identity of these mechanisms is not known, but emerging evidence suggests that suboptimal decision making that is observable prior to drug use may contribute to the pathology of addiction.
Methods: The current study investigated the relationship between decision-making phenotypes and opioid-taking behaviors in male and female Long Evans rats.

Background: Efforts to scale up overdose education and naloxone distribution (OEND), an evidence-based practice for reducing opioid overdose mortality, was a major focus of the HEALing Communities Study (HCS). The aim of this analysis is to describe the qualitative perspectives of partner organizations regarding the impacts of implementing OEND in a state that used a naloxone "hub with many spokes" model for scaling up this strategy.
Methods: Small group (n = 20) and individual (n = 24) qualitative interviews were conducted with staff from 44 agencies in eight Kentucky counties that implemented OEND from April 2020 to June 2022.

Objectives: Naldemedine is a peripherally acting μ-opioid receptor antagonist used to treat opioid-induced constipation. As this drug does not cross the blood-brain barrier, it is believed that patients without brain metastases do not experience opioid withdrawal symptoms.
Methods: Here, we experienced a case in which a cancer patient without brain metastasis presented with anxiety and restlessness that was severe enough to interfere with daily life.
