In Poland 138 cases of animal rabies were reported in 2005. Mass oral vaccination of wild animals against rabies, which was introduced in 1993, has had a visible positive impact on the epizootic situation of rabies in Poland. In 2005 we observed about a twenty two-fold decrease in number of animal rabies cases in comparison with the year 2001. The outbreak of animal rabies, which started in 2001 in Wielkopolskie voivodeship, was still present but it is limited. Sources of wild and domestic animal rabies are mainly present in the north-east (56% of rabies cases) and south-east of the country. Out of 7 278 persons vaccinated in Poland against rabies, 209 (3%) were bitten by or had contact with a rabid animal. The main reason for vaccination against rabies was exposure to an animal category C--rabies not excluded (6293 cases, 86%) or category D--animals healthy at the moment of the exposition (776 cases, 10%).

Background: Rabies is a preventable yet deadly public health threat. Despite the availability of effective vaccines for both humans and animals, the persistence of rabies-related fatalities underscores the need for enhanced public education strategies. This study aimed to develop and validate a Rabies Health Education Module delivered via a Massive Open Online Course, targeting adult dog owners in Kelantan, Malaysia.

Interactions between humans and livestock could increase the risk of zoonotic disease transmission. In addition, limited knowledge of zoonoses and foodborne diseases among livestock farmers could heighten the risks of foodborne illness and outbreaks of zoonotic diseases. This study evaluated the awareness of zoonotic diseases and preventive practices for zoonotic and foodborne diseases among livestock farmers of the Chitwan, Rupandehi, and Tanahun districts of Nepal by conducting a cross-sectional survey of 280 livestock farmers.

Canids act as a crucial intermediary in the transmission of rabies and , serving as co-infection hosts and pathogen carriers for both rabies and hydatid disease (HD) transmitted from animals to humans. Therefore, an effective and efficient bivalent oral vaccine for preventing HD and rabies is urgently required to reduce economic losses in husbandry resulting from rabies and HD. In this study, a full-length plasmid (pcDNA4-NPM+G+EgM123+eGFP+L) carrying the gene and fluorescence reporter genes of eGFP and four auxiliary transfection plasmids of rabies virus SRV (pcDNA4-N, pcDNA4-P, pcDNA4-G, pcDNA-L) were established by reverse genetics approaches and co-transfected to BSR cells by electrotransfection.

is an intracellular protozoan parasite that infects a wide range of vertebrates, including humans. Although cats are the only definitive host, any warm-blooded animal can act as a paratenic host. Throughout the years, this apicomplexan parasite has been studied due to its wide prevalence, zoonotic potential, and host behavioral alterations.
