Purpose: The research literature strongly corroborates that desires and attempts to lose weight are more prevalent among women who are already within the healthy weight range than men. The development of a distorted weight perception, specifically an overestimation of one's body size, may manifest into caloric restriction and other disordered eating behaviors. However, there is no systematic process to monitor the prevalence of disordered eating behaviors in Canada. The objective of this study was to investigate the prevalence and the sociodemographic characteristics of Canadian adults who have a perception of being overweight when their body mass index indicates that they are normal or underweight based on self-reported heights and weights.

Methods: The responses to the 2000/2001 Canadian Community Health Survey by a representative sample of Canadians between the ages of 20 and 64 were analyzed. Bivariate and logistic regression analyses were performed.

Results: The prevalence of perceiving oneself as overweight when at acceptable weight for height was 23.6% for women and 7.8% for men. The probability was significantly greater in women, some foreign-born residents, those with a higher income level, and with increasing age.

Conclusions: These results suggest that, in contrast to mainstream thinking, distorted weight perception is experienced by adult and aging women, and not only by adolescent girls. More research is needed to understand why distorted weight perception increases with age in women and what potential adverse effects it may have in this population.

Purpose: To compare the quality of DWI images, signal loss of left hepatic lobe and diagnostic performance of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values between SS-EPI and iShim-EPI in liver lesions.

Methods: Totally 142 patients were involved, images using SS-EPI and the prototype iShim-EPI were acquired before injection of gadoxetic acid-enhanced liver MRI.Image quality of demarcation of liver capsule, resolution, lesion distortion, artifacts, lesion confidence score, and signal loss in left hepatic lobe was assessed by two radiologists.

This study expanded the existing literature on obesity and distortion of body image by examining subjective and objective body type among young medical workers, specifically investigating whether fat percentage independently influences body type cognitive bias. We recruited 264 participants (41.29% male, mean age 26.

Motion-Compensated Multishot Pancreatic Diffusion-Weighted Imaging With Deep Learning-Based Denoising.

January 2025

From the Department of Radiology, Stanford University, Stanford, CA (K.W., M.J.M., A.M.L., A.B.S., A.J.H., D.B.E., R.L.B.); Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging, University of California, San Francisco, San Francisco, CA (K.W.); GE HealthCare, Houston, TX (X.W.); GE HealthCare, Boston, MA (A.G.); and GE HealthCare, Menlo Park, CA (P.L.).

Objectives: Pancreatic diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) has numerous clinical applications, but conventional single-shot methods suffer from off resonance-induced artifacts like distortion and blurring while cardiovascular motion-induced phase inconsistency leads to quantitative errors and signal loss, limiting its utility. Multishot DWI (msDWI) offers reduced image distortion and blurring relative to single-shot methods but increases sensitivity to motion artifacts. Motion-compensated diffusion-encoding gradients (MCGs) reduce motion artifacts and could improve motion robustness of msDWI but come with the cost of extended echo time, further reducing signal.

Multicomponent Ti-containing ultra-high temperature ceramics (UHTCs) have emerged as more promising ablation-resistant materials than typical UHTCs for applications above 2000 °C. However, the underlying mechanism of Ti improving the ablation performance is still obscure. Here, (Hf,Zr,Ti)B coatings are fabricated by supersonic atmospheric plasma spraying, and the effects of Ti content on the ablation performance under an oxyacetylene flame are investigated.

Purpose: To develop a rapid, high-resolution and distortion-free quantitative mapping technique for fetal brain at 3 T.

Methods: A 2D multi-echo radial FLASH sequence with blip gradients is adapted for fetal brain data acquisition during maternal free breathing at 3 T. A calibrationless model-based reconstruction with sparsity constraints is developed to jointly estimate water, fat, and field maps directly from the acquired k-space data.
