Facial lipoatrophy is a frequent adverse effect of HIV-infected patients due to antiretroviral therapy. Intradermal injection of polylactic acid (Newfill) is one of the currently available treatments. Newfill is a resorbable implant and follow-up has to be rigorous. The Pharmacy and the Infectious Diseases units at the Saint-Louis hospital implemented a follow-up procedure. A follow-up of treated patients was made for 20 months. 127 patients were included. The rate of traceability was 100%. Such traceability is therefore feasible and will have to be implemented for the follow-up of patients treated with future filling products.

The ultimate dental implant challenge is reconstruction of the severely resorbed maxilla, especially in patients with long-term edentulism or multiple previous failed attempts at dental implant placement and full-arch implant rehabilitation. Before implant dentistry, complete dentures, which are limited by poor retention and lack of support that the alveolar ridge offers in atrophic maxillae, were the only option for these patients. Pterygoid implants are now a valid and valuable resource for the rehabilitation of the posterior atrophic maxilla.

Antegonial notching can occur after bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO) and may lead to unpleasant aesthetic outcomes in both young and older patients. This clinical study presents a new concept to potentially overcome this problem and describes the workflow. Beta-tricalcium phosphate patient-specific gap implants (β-TCP gap-PSIs) are biocompatible and resorbable bone grafts that are placed in the space of the osteotomy gap during orthognathic procedures; they are virtually planned and printed in 3D.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term treatment outcomes of basal implants in patients with severely resorbed ridges, including the survival and success rates, patient complaints, satisfaction, and Quality of Life.
Evidence Acquisition: An extensive electronic search was conducted on the search engines: PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar using Boolean Operators (AND, OR, NOT) and the key words (basal implants, Corticobasal implants, Strategic Implants, severely resorbed ridge, severely atrophic ridge, treatment outcome, patient satisfaction) within the last 10 years.
Evidence Synthesis: A total of 21 articles were found, encompassing 9732 basal implants placed in 1219 patients.
