Late Endovascular Treatment for Ischemic Stroke with Moderate to Large Infarct Volume is Associated with a Better Clinical Prognosis.

Curr Neurovasc Res

January 2025

Center for Rehabilitation Medicine, Department of Neurology, Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital (Affiliated People's Hospital), Hangzhou Medical College, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.

Objective: The concept of "time is brain" is crucial for the reperfusion therapy of ischemic stroke. However, the Infarct Growth Rate (IGR) varies among individuals, which is regarded as a more powerful factor than the time when determining infarct volume and its association with clinical outcomes. For stroke patients with a similar infarct volume, a longer time from stroke Onset to Imaging (OTI) correlates with a lower IGR, which may indicate a better prognosis.

Evaluating low NO hydrogen engines designed for off-road and construction applications.

Hydrogen internal combustion engines offer a near-term decarbonisation pathway for hard to electrify sectors such as non-road mobile machinery (NRMM). However, few hydrogen-specific engines have ever been developed with the twin-goals of maximising low carbon energy efficiency and delivering air quality co-benefits. We present analyses of dynamometer-derived nitrogen oxides (NO) tailpipe emissions from four variants of a ∼55 kW four-cylinder port fuelled injection spark ignition hydrogen internal combustion engine (H2ICE) suitable for a range of uses within the NRMM industry.

Two-dimensional (2D) hybrid materials, particularly those based on boron nitride (BN) and graphene oxide (GO), have attracted significant attention for energy applications owing to their distinct structural and electronic properties. BN/GO composites uniquely combine the mechanical strength, thermal stability and electrical insulation of BN with the high conductivity and flexibility of GO, creating advanced materials ideal for the fabrication of batteries, supercapacitors and fuel cells. These hybrids offer synergistic effects, enhanced charge transport, increased surface area, and improved chemical stability, making them promising candidates for high-performance energy systems.

The exploration of our solar system for microbial extraterrestrial life is the primary goal of several space agencies. Mars has attracted substantial attention owing to its Earth-like geological history and potential niches for microbial life. This study evaluated the suitability of the polyextremophilic fungal strain LaBioMMi 1217 as a model eukaryote for astrobiology.

Comparative analysis of inflammatory biomarkers for the diagnosis of neonatal sepsis: IL-6, IL-8, SAA, CRP, and PCT.

Open Life Sci

January 2025

Department of Neonatology, Children's Hospital, Capital Institute of Pediatrics, 2 Yabao Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing, 100020, China.

Neonatal sepsis (NS) is highly likely to cause death; however, early diagnosis of NS is still a great challenge. This study aimed to determine the diagnostic values of IL-6, IL-8, and serum amyloid A (SAA) in NS patients. C-Reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT), interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, and SAA were detected in 120 infants with NS (60 premature infants [NS-PIs] and 60 term infants [NS-TIs]).
