Clinical Rationale For Study: We have reported that intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) of unknown cause at a young age is associated with lower prothrombin and factor VII and higher antithrombin activity, along with the formation of looser fibrin networks displaying enhanced lysability. Patients with mild-to-moderate bleeding of unknown cause have elevated levels of free plasma tissue factor pathway inhibitor alpha (fTFPIα), inhibiting the tissue factor-factor VII complex and prothrombinase.

Aim Of Study: We hypothesised that patients with an intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) of unknown cause may also exhibit higher fTFPIα.

Molecular and clinical characterization of two independent Chinese families with protein C deficiency.

Ann Hematol

December 2024

Department of Clinical Laboratory, Key Laboratory of Clinical Laboratory Diagnosis and Translational Research of Zhejiang Province, The First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, Shangcai Village, Ouhai District, Wenzhou, 325000, China.

This study aims to investigate the clinical characterization and molecular pathogenic basis of hereditary protein C (PC) deficiency in two independent Chinese families, and conduct in vitro expression studies on the newly discovered p.Trp444Arg mutation. The PC activity (PC: A) was tested using the chromogenic substrate, and PC antigen (PC: Ag) was detected via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).

As the main protein forming the vascular extracellular matrix, collagen has a weak antigenicity, making it an attractive candidate for coatings of vascular grafts. In order to bring antithrombotic properties to collagen for obtaining suitable blood compatibility of surfaces and further bioactive molecule carrying capacity, heparinization appears as a method of choice. Thus, in this article, pH-driven self-assembly was used to form collagen-based hydrogels with physical incorporation of heparins, especially low molecular weight heparin or unfractionated heparin at 1 IU/mL and 6 IU/mL.

Objectives: Cancer cells can activate coagulation and inhibit fibrinolysis. The aim was to investigate the association between the burden of peritoneal metastases from colorectal cancer (PM-CRC) and biomarkers reflecting thrombin generation and fibrinolysis.

Methods: A cohort of 55 patients with PM-CRC scheduled for cytoreductive surgery.

Coagulopathy in acute liver failure.

Best Pract Res Clin Gastroenterol

December 2024

Department of Hepatology, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India. Electronic address:

Acute liver failure (ALF) is a rare but rapidly progressing syndrome, marked by severe liver dysfunction and altered mental status. While definitions of ALF vary across different guidelines, with timelines ranging from 4 to 26 weeks between jaundice onset and encephalopathy, the key defining features remain encephalopathy and coagulopathy. Elevated coagulation markers, particularly prothrombin time and international normalized ratio, have traditionally been associated with bleeding risks.
