The coexistence of multiple distinct structural states often obstructs the application of three-dimensional cryo-electron microscopy to large macromolecular complexes. Maximum likelihood approaches are emerging as robust tools for solving the image classification problems that are posed by such samples. Here, we propose a statistical data model that allows for a description of the experimental image formation within the formulation of 2D and 3D maximum-likelihood refinement. The proposed approach comprises a formulation of the probability calculations in Fourier space, including a spatial frequency-dependent noise model and a description of defocus-dependent imaging effects. The Expectation-Maximization-like algorithms presented are generally applicable to the alignment and classification of structurally heterogeneous projection data. Their effectiveness is demonstrated with various examples, including 2D classification of top views of the archaeal helicase MCM and 3D classification of 70S E. coli ribosome and Simian Virus 40 large T-antigen projections.

Background: Healthcare expenditures have risen in middle- and high-income countries. One of the potential contributors is the overuse of diagnostics. I explore whether medical imaging is overused when privately owned clinics in Finland treat patients with voluntary private health insurance (VPHI).

Background: Previous studies have shown that in-beam magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can be used to visualize a proton beam during the irradiation of liquid-filled phantoms. The beam energy- and current-dependent local image contrast observed in water was identified to be predominantly caused by beam-induced buoyant convection and associated flow effects. Besides this flow dependency, the MR signal change was found to be characterized by a change in the relaxation time of water, hinting at a radiochemical contribution, which was hypothesized to lie in oxygen depletion-evoked relaxation time lengthening.

Purpose: The aim was to establish a functional MRI protocol for analyzing human stereoscopic vision in clinical practice. The feasibility was established in a cohort of 9 healthy subjects to determine the functional cortical areas responsible for virtually relief vision.
Methods: Nine healthy right-handed subjects underwent orthoptic examination and functional MRI.
Purpose: We hypothesised that applying radiomics to [F]PSMA-1007 PET/CT images could help distinguish Unspecific Bone Uptakes (UBUs) from bone metastases in prostate cancer (PCa) patients. We compared the performance of radiomic features to human visual interpretation.
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively analysed 102 hormone-sensitive PCa patients who underwent [F]PSMA-1007 PET/CT and exhibited at least one focal bone uptake with known clinical follow-up (reference standard).

In order to improve the accuracy of camera colorimetric characterization, a multi-input parameter optimization method was proposed in this paper. The input parameters of the traditional camera characterization method were generally RGB values; in the proposed method, the luminance parameter L was introduced in addition to RGB values, and the four-input parameters of RGBL were used as input parameters for the conversion model. In the experiment, 549 colors were uniformly selected from the Munsell Book of Color (Matte Edition), and the RGBL values and corresponding CIEXYZ values of the selected colors were measured by a spectroradiometer and three cameras, including an imaging luminance meter, respectively.
