Experiments were performed on rat skinned trabecular muscles dissected from the right ventricles. They were activated (pCa = 5.9) at 10 C, 2.3 nm sarcomere length. The temperature jump induced the biexponential tension rise. The rate constant of the fast tension rise (k1) was 3-4.5 ms and that of the slow tension rise (k2) was about 15 ms. These values were slower (3 times) comparing with those of a single skeletal fibre. The discrepancy can be explained by different kinetic properties of heart and skeletal myosin or presents a well developed connection tissue (series elastic element) in the heart muscle.

This paper attempts to describe and explain the long-term evolution of wage inequality in imperial China, covering over two millennia from the Han dynasty to the Qing dynasty (202 BCE-1912 CE). Based on historical government records of official salaries, commodity prices, and agricultural productivity, we convert various forms of salaries to equivalent rice volumes and comparable salary benchmarks. Wage inequality is measured by salary ratios and (partial) Gini coefficients between official and peasant classes as well as within the official class.

Using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and density functional theory (DFT), an experimental and theoretical study of changes in the electronic structure (dispersion dependencies) and corresponding modification of the energy band gap at the Dirac point (DP) for topological insulator (TI) [Formula: see text] have been carried out with gradual replacement of magnetic Mn atoms by non-magnetic Ge atoms when concentration of the latter was varied from 10% to 75%. It was shown that when Ge concentration increases, the bulk band gap decreases and reaches zero plateau in the concentration range of 45-60% while trivial surface states (TrSS) are present and exhibit an energy splitting of 100 and 70 meV in different types of measurements. It was also shown that TSS disappear from the measured band dispersions at a Ge concentration of about 40%.

Interaction of a novel dihydroxy dibenzoazacrown (HDTC) with various surfactants of different charges, for example, anionic (sodium dodecylsulfate, SDS), cationic (dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide, DTAB), cationic gemini (butanediyl-1,4-bis(dimethylcetylammonium bromide), 16-4-16), ionic liquid (1-hexadecyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride, CMImCl), and nonionic (polyoxyethylene sorbitan monostearate, Tween-60), has been investigated at a widespread range of surfactant concentrations (including premicellar, micellar, and postmicellar regime) in 15% (v/v) EtOH medium at room temperature. Several experimental techniques, viz., tensiometry, UV-vis spectroscopy, and steady-state fluorimetry, are implemented to explicate these interactions.
