There is no single method for evaluating topical antifungal drugs. The localisation and the type of fungal, determine the treatment duration (from few days to several months). The main methodological characteristics of clinical trials in tinea pedis treatment (athlete's foot type) are reported. Aspects related to other clinical forms such as tinea versicolor and onychomycosis are also described. In any case, the main criteria of activity remains the mycological examination based on KOH microbiology and culture performed at the end of the treatment and again afterwards.

The rising incidence of fungal infections, compounded by the emergence of severe antifungal resistance, has resulted in an urgent need for innovative antifungal therapies. We developed an antifungal protein-based formulation as a topical antifungal agent by combining an artificial lipidated chitin-binding domain of antifungal chitinase (LysM-lipid) with recently developed ionic liquid-in-oil microemulsion formulations (MEFs). Our findings demonstrated that the lipid moieties attached to LysM and the MEFs effectively disrupted the integrity of the stratum corneum in a mouse skin model, thereby enhancing the skin permeability of the LysM-lipids.

A 12-year-old terrier was referred for investigation of a 4-month history of coughing, sneezing and nasal discharge. Clinical findings were consistent with sinonasal Aspergillus fumigatus infection with evidence of intracranial extension on computed tomography. Endoscopic debridement followed by topical clotrimazole and systemic antifungal therapy resulted in clinical improvement.

The objective of this study is to analyze the detection rate, the pathogenic fungus distribution, risk factors and drug sensitivity of fungal infection of external auditory canal in patients diagnosed with chronic otitis media. The data of a total of 419 patients with chronic suppurative otitis media or middle ear cholesteatoma who were admitted from January 2019 to February 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. A total of 419 patients were included, and 71 patients(16.

Luliconazole (LCZ) is a topical imidazole antifungal agent with broad-spectrum activity. However, LCZ encounters challenges such as low aqueous solubility, skin retention, and penetration, which reduce its dermal bioavailability and hinder its efficacy in drug delivery. The aim of the present study was to formulate, characterize, and evaluate the in vitro antifungal efficacy of luliconazole-loaded nanostructured lipid carriers (LCZ-NLCs) against a panel of resistant fungal strains.
